Re: Time for vista upgrade?
On the weekend I was at the Vista SP1 RC install event. It was a room full of monitors and keyboards, you brought your machine and testers and engineers were on hand. They gave you two DVDs with the install file on it and for an hour or so you were sitting there and installing. For me it was a pain, as my machine would refuse to shut down that day. Then the patching process took forever. There were sandwiches and drinks available and you got some shwag (speaker/USB hub and a travel kit) plus a promise for MS Office 07.
I don't think the SP will be extra cash though. They were always free. After all it's just patches to the OS. BTW: XP SP3 is due out as well.

Re: Time for vista upgrade?
Interesting.. anything else other than the painstaking install process? Does everyone that put up with Vista release one get a speaker/USB hub and a travel kit?

Re: Time for vista upgrade?
the install is way easier than xp. answer 3 or 4 questions and sit back for 30 to 45 mins.

Re: Time for vista upgrade?
The Mac Leopard instal recommends that you go take a walk while it instals... Trying to promote going outdoors... Good grief... Stupid thing takes a long time too, but the results are more of small update than a new OS. Guess that's what you get when your idea is to make upgrading your OS like installing a windows SP. Oh wait it's all OSX but with different animal names and subtle features... It is like a SP... With a $150 price tag... good thing they've only released 6 updates in the past 6 years...
