Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

I think we should look for a set of islands near the middle of the world, so our travel times to the other side of the world won't take so long.

Also when we look to colonize a set of islands, we need to look at what God is on the island, the 10% bonus for luxury items will really pay off when trading. Or the cheaper ships for trade or war.

Yes, you are correct, got a little to excited and stopped reading what I was building

Arn't all the Islands in the center already colonised to the max since they place new players at the middle of the map as far as possible when you create an account ?

I like the cluster at 10 24. In that cluster there is a sulfur, crystal and a marble island all with the 10% production bonus wonder...and one for wine can be found on the cluster south.

It is empty, has islands for bonuses to troops and cargos and seems like it would accomodate our diverse needs.

That is probably correct, I was just thinking that putting ourselves on the edge of the known world might make trading difficult. Plus there are benefits to colonizing a populated island, the changes of the luxury items and saw mills being upgraded is higher and there would be more people contributing to the expansion of these resources.

There are hardly any islands with a population of 16. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the new players, but it seems the placement of new players is for the most part random.

I don't think we really want to set up shop in such a deserted area though. How far are these islands away from other traders?

Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

Far far away. The idea is that we'd trade with each other more.

Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

I understand that, but we don't want to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. In a set of populated island we could still trade within our alliance and deal with others in the world also.

Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

Yeah, I tend to agree. Which is why I only plan to colonize a settlement there. I'm not moving my capitol there. My goal is to have two islands of each resource, one isolated, and one closer to civilization.

Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

I probably would not move my capitol to such a deserted area either. The biggest problem, not even that it is deserted, is the time it will take to ship items back to the capitols. I imagine it would take 12+ hours to ship goods. I don't know, I just feel that we could accomplish the same thing, but in a more populated set of islands which are closer to our established colonies and it would benefit us more. Perhaps we should look for a set of islands that are halfway between say us (atomic, mach, clef) and undead, cat, etc. Even then we would have 6 hour trips from "production colonies" to our capitols.

It would be easy if I could scroll out in the world view, to get a better idea of the surroundings.

Re: Ikariam.com: Alpha World

TBH the world will become poulated where ever we go (so why not reach a desolate place and get ahead of the game), I like the idea of finding a group of islands to populate with a TG mob (such as those Islands at 10:1). Its is a small set of tightly packed Islands with all the resources. It seems that at the moment other Alliances are populating the othe island clusters around the area as well. This will provide a fun war zone I feel. It's not hard to fully support yourself tbh so I am heading that way, people are welcome to come join. It will be fun to set up a eutopia there.
