Trading range

I got hooked and started 3 separate towns (marble, wine and sulfur) with the idea that they could support each other until I grew up and joined the alliance. Well that didn’t work out as well as I can’t seem to trade much with my level 2-3 out-posts.
Question. What do I need to trade globally? Or how can I reach out farther with my ships.

And my neighbors are of little help. I can’t seem to find a store open in the neighborhood

Re: Trading range

Well, just FYI it is illegal to have more than one account.

Other than that, I am pretty sure you have to research 'expansion' to trade globally.

Yes, this happened to me today and as soon as "Expansion" was researched the goods were on the way.

Re: Trading range

You can 'see' 1 additional island worth of gold offers and sales every 2nd level of your trading post.
1: 1 island
3: 2 islands
5: 3 islands
7: 5 islands
9: 6 islands

That means if you were situated at the theoretical 50:50 then with a level 9 trading post you'd be able to see offers on islands 56:50, 50:56, 44:50, and 50:44 as well as everything in between (unsure about diagonals since water tiles skew things a bit).

Before expansion you can ship goods as far as your trading post allows. After expansion you can ship goods as far as the eye can see. That means if you set up a trade with someone at 1:1 from 100:100 you can ship goods to them and do a trade without a trading post. If you wanted to buy/sell goods to 1:1 from 100:100 for gold (only done via the trading post) then you'd need something around a level 285 trading post which will let you see islands 142 spaces away.
