Resource Ranking
I am working on expanding to a fourth colony but I am quickly realizing that I don't need a crystal island as much as I need a second marble island. That got me thinking that marble may be the most important resource. Then of course you think of wine and if your people are pissed then you can't get any marble from the quarry so maybe wine is the most important.
What do you think? Rank the importance of each resource for you. Not the gold value per se' but the entire value to you and your current colony setup. Here's mine: 1.Wine 2.Marble 3.Crystal 4.Sulfur Also, vote for which resource you see as the most important one in the entire game in general (not just for you) using the poll on this thread.

Re: Resource Ranking
I think marble is the most difficult resource to have, because of how fast you use it. With all the new governers palaces, it has increased its value. It is very valuable to me, and I use most of it all the time.
Wine, on the other hand I have plenty of. I have not yet run out, and give some out to people within TGU. Very easy if you have a wine island, if you don't it gets pretty tedious asking someone for wine every time. Sulfur, is like wine. I am not that military, and I have a sulfur island that is stock-full almost all the time. I send most of it to my capital so I never have a cap on it. Crystal is somewhat of importance. I don't really have the time to upgrade my academies now a-days when I am making sure I have a positive growth rate at all times. However, I do have high-level research centers, and the crystal comes pretty easily in. I give out crystal as I do wine.

Re: Resource Ranking
I chose marble but thats probably only because I am still trying to expand and thus require a lot of it to do so, especially with the governor's houses required to be the same level as your palace which also takes a ton of resources to upgrade. That being said, it would appear that the later levels of the game require a lot more glass. Wine is important but you use relatively little in comparison to what you can gather. Sulfur is similar to wine. Unless you are constantly building your military, building a lot at once, or need to replace fallen troops/ships you are not going to need huge amounts of sulfur all at once like you do with marble or crystal. Personally I think the resources are balanced pretty well, but again I haven't seen the later stages of the game so my perspective could be off.

Re: Resource Ranking
for me and my dreams of military grandeur, it goes as thus:
1. Marble (and wood) 2. Wine 3. Sulfur 4. Crystal

Re: Resource Ranking
This is the order I raid in, keeping in mind I have two marble colonies, and a sulfur one.
Marble (building material and source of quick cash on the market) Crystal (used to build docs, upgrade weapons and academies, and rush tech) Wine (used to keep the "horizontal maneuvers" going, insuring that I have population to draw on for troops and cash Sulfur (cheap on the market, and sickeningly easy to raid for. Essential for a war machine) If you are making war, you completely flip this chart. Marble is useless when you are at war, except as a cash source from those who are not at war. Crystal is only good for making docs. Wine is pretty important to keep your population (and source of pop for troops) going. Sulfur is your lifeblood at war. Without sulfur, there is no ship you can make. If you are blockaded, you are boned. No two ways about it, unless you can get shipments across the land. No sulfur, and no ground troops stronger than a slinger. Keep your warehouse full of sulfur, even if you never plan to fight.

Re: Resource Ranking
Believe it or not, I chose Wine. I started on a Wine Island and it has worked out well. With increased population at an average of 4+ per hour I can generate money and wine to trade.
Wine Marble Sulphur Crystal My soldiers can be drunk and pillage for marble all day long, but I need thta sulphur for may navy and marines. Marble is the hardest commodity to come by, as it is a long process to mine it and you use it with the click of a mouse.

Fubar only says that because I was his marble monkey.
![]() We had a nice synergistic relationship going there with shipments to each other of what we needed.

Re: Resource Ranking
This is very true! I even have a marble colony now and can't make enough to sustain my needs.

Re: Resource Ranking
This is definately true. The only marble colonies that make 'surplus' are the starting colonies. Once you get into the higher division building upgrades and town sizes then all your marble goes to keeping things going.
I'm considering abandoning my plans for a sulfur colony as my 4th settlement and just making a 2nd marble colony to keep up with the growth.

Re: Resource Ranking
Early on I find that wine is important. With three colonies up and running and my capital as wine I can keep three colonies afloat easily now with wine. Marble is now much more important and wood. I have sulfor as my third colony instead of crystall as I wanted to be able to have a moderate military ready if needed. However now I think Im at a point where I need crystal and marble. It is going to cost so much marble to get a fourth colony going that it seems like a catch 22. Once I have a fourth colony I won't need such a huge influx of marble and the crystall will be nice to have, but it takes a tonne of marble to get there.
