Its time to move

I originally wanted to stick it out in my area [5x:2x] to provide a broader TGA influence, but I'm getting bored so far from all the action. What's involved in moving all my colonies and capitol to the heartland? What % of the building cost do you get back when you demolish?

Also, I've got around 200 troops and 100 ships that I rather not have to rebuild. The upkeep has me in the red already, abandoning a colony will make it hard to keep up with the cost. Any ideas?

Re: Its time to move

The best, and easiest, way to move would be to 'leap frog' yourself across islands till you get where you want to go.

Start razing everything and either storing it (not plausible since you won't have much warehouse space) or sending it out for storage with someone in TG. Work yourself down to only your capital.

Build a new colony at or close to where you want to move. Transfer everything there. Redeploy your troops to the new colony.

Rinse and repeat.

The down side to moving is you'll have to reinvest all the building time to get your buildings back, but you won't have to research things at first which will speed things along.

I would just move a colony where you want to be, and be done with it. Move your capitol, and destroy the old one if you really want everything over by the hub. I see no reason to leapfrog over?

Re: Its time to move

I'm in the process of dismantling my wine colony. I'd like to relocate it to an island with 12+ sawmill and 10+ vineyard. Any recommendations (in the 6x:8x area)?

I've seen a few full/nearly full islands that are nice... any chance you guys could muscle someone into abandoning their colony?

Re: Its time to move

I was just thinking what if we all for next colonies put them far out so they were next to other TGA players? The influence would be huge and widespread and it would promote trade like crazy between each other as well as sort of unite people together in certain territories, the only downside im thinking of is the cost it would take when using armies. (sending them to your colony if colony mates cant defend the area yet).

Would this sort of thing work? Instead of colonizing nearby places to go somewhat far out with other members? (would only work if everyone did it and would definitely take awhile till it paid off but just curious)

Re: Its time to move

If you're going to move, just plant a new colony where you want to be centered around. After that, make sure all of your colonies have the same level governors residence, and then transfer your capital and move your colonies over near you one by one. It's not a quick process and you'll be starting over with your colonies, but it's worth it. Having a colony 15 hours away isnt going to do you any good.

Re: Its time to move

yep, plus you can use the far away colony as a good source of income. keep enough people in your vineyard (since you said you were on a wine island) to keep the current level of drunks happy, then take all workers from the saw mill, demolish anything unimportant, then when you're ready, just abandon the colony all together.

Re: Its time to move

72:73 has a level 9 vineyard and level 11 saw mill. It's also one of my islands so I won't be as lonely on the fringe territories.

the 'leapfrog' idea is because he has such a large military and naval force to take care of. By nature they travel slower than your cargo ships and the double upkeep from such a large force going long distance will be much greater than if you leap frogged across islands and let the upkeep settle to normal and 'rest' before the next leg.

Re: Its time to move

Was considering moving myself, but its such a hassle, im going to try and stick it out down here.....would be cool if any of my TGA brothers (or sisters) could come near to my island, and create a sphere or power, that would really shake the place up.

Re: Its time to move

Im moving as well. I will move my capital(s) and demo everything I dont need to keep production up. Its a week long process but I think it will be worth it in the long run. Ill be around the 6*:8* area as advised.

Re: Its time to move

My two cents. Dump one colony now, use it to set up your main base at your new location (wine island would probably be good start with). Concentrate on your warehouse and TH there (with tavern to grow). Ship your troops over. Dump your navy. If you have 100 ships, you are probably due to upgrade them to a new type anyhow, and transfering war ships long distances is expensive.

Once your new colony is pretty well set, you can start breaking down the rest of the old ones and moving.

Leap froging would only break your transport costs into chunks, the distance traveled (and increased upkeep) would remain the same overall.

Re: Its time to move

When you move do you move all supplies and luxuries or just leave them behind? I'm not far from Jeepo. I am surrounded by GTO right now. They've been peaceable but they want me to join them. If I say no, they'll probably start picking me apart anyway.
