I don't think its a good idea now to colonize to far away, it will take hours to get resources back and forth between your cities, so I'm probably going to setup another city next to my capital.

Sure, but once you get your city set up, would you really want to tear it down when you move away? Thats why I am moving at the moment where I could do a lot of things. It is a days way away, and I have 9 ships ready to send goods at the moment over there. Going to stockpile it up!

I'll be joining you guys in 10:1 soon, although it'll probably have to be self-sufficient with regard to my empire, as it's quite distant from my capital.

I don't mind joining, but my first colony will be next to my capital, but a different luxury resource, I've got two islands north and south of me that are wine.

that is what I did. I already have wine, so I put a colony on the island next to me that has marble. It is only around a 30 min trip to deliver goods back and forth.

Hmmm you guys have the same strategy as everyone else. Curious on how it will turn out if your colony is only there to support your capitol. I'll be down to join the 10:1 family after I upgrade my palace (should be done in the next day or so). As for the alliance I want to mention the idea of forming a strong military for the sole point of destroying cities named "Sparta".
