Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
As your town level grows higher, you'll lose more and more to each pillage.

I've been pilliaging a level 8 town on the next island with $108,000 and have been getting around 620 gold a shot. Just to give you an idea of what you can expect.
Took me 12 attacks over 2 days to suck the town dry of its crystal and wood reserves. I'm going to be sad when it gets deleted since it helped me put together the money for my cargo fleet and first colony.
I'll probably continue to raid it for the money and resources it's still producing until it does get deleted. I think I'm going to need a bigger cargo fleet soon.

Atleast you can limit how many resorces they can get away with by keeping your Trading Port at level 1.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
I'm having a hard time supporting my army. It's pretty large and I'm only a level 5 town.
I have no units harvesting wood because I get enough from Pillaging and my Warehouse is nearly full. I have 50 units doing doing wine, and 35 (the max for now) scientists. With my army it puts me at -196 income per hour... (I still have 4 ballistas being built - but I do have 5 slingers and 2 swordsman of pillaging atm).
Does firing units give you any resources back?

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
I think that is what saved me. My port is only level 1. I see no real reason to upgrade it since all I do is ship marble back to my capital.
My town level is 8 and all they got was the measly gold!!!
My biggest mistake was I only had a few ram ships defending the port. I had moved them to another colony to defend it but forgot to build new ones. Had I had the normal 5 ram and 5 ballista the guy would have been turned away at the port.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
Code:
Battle for Raphaeson
fldash from Dasherkins
vs Raphael from Raphaeson
Offensive power: Offensive power: (7) 7 Offensive power: Offensive power: -
Defensive power: Defensive power: (7) 7 Defensive power: Defensive power: -
Stamina: Stamina: (8) 8 Stamina: Stamina: -
- Town wall: Town wall: 20%
Combat is finished
Victors: fldash
Remaining troops (-Losses)
Slinger 5(-4) 5(-4)
Swordsman 2(-2) 2(-2)
fldash from Dasherkins has won the battle and pillages Raphaeson.
So my losses were just from his wall? If I attack again, is the wall still there and going to cause me issues...

Look at the bright side. You only have to pay the maintenance cost for the 1 slinger on the return trip.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
True, wish I could see more of the battle so I could know what units I fought. His military score was 600 or so. Now it's 0, so I'm sending single Swordsman over to pillage again...

He didn't have any troops. Just the inherent town defense + 20% for the wall.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
Well, so my troops tore down the wall and now his military score is 0? I thought walls lasted forever and your military got bonuses from it - if you didn't have a military, wall didn't matter.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
See, my second attack... he definitely had troops...
Code:
Outcome of the Battle
Battle for Raphaeson
fldash from Dasherkins
vs Raphael from Raphaeson
Offensive power: Offensive power: (23) 23 Offensive power: Offensive power: -
Defensive power: Defensive power: (14) 14 Defensive power: Defensive power: -
Stamina: Stamina: (10) 10 Stamina: Stamina: -
- Town wall: Town wall: 20%
Combat is finished
Victors: fldash
Remaining troops (-Losses)
Swordsman 1(-0) 1(-0)
fldash from Dasherkins has won the battle and pillages Raphaeson.

Edit: Yes I seem to be misreading the report in that format.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
I think he has a high-level town wall. If you took a ram with you to knock it down you'd suffer fewer losses.
Back to the main topic of this thread.
FYI: I've done a little experimenting with pillaging inactives and found that 1 swordsman will defeat an inactive village with a military score of zero 100% of the time and never die (at least on the 6 times I've done this).
This is much preferable to losing a slinger each time I send out a raid.

Okay, I'm confused. If you send out a couple rams to blockade a port. What keeps him from sending out his resources to the far ends of the earth before the blockade reaches him. Does he have warning of the blockade?

There are a couple of things.
One is if the port is low level he will not be able to get all the goods out in time. A level one port loads 10 units per minute. If they have 40 minute warning they can only get 400 goods out of town.
If they have a really large port then they can save more stuff.
Second is that they have to know you are coming. Use your spy to see if they are logged on. If they aren't then there is no way they can save their goods.
They also must have the transport ships to send the stuff. Each one only carries 300 goods. They get pretty expensive after you have bought a dozen or so.
They also have to have someplace to send them. If all their colonies are full then they have to send them to an ally or some random town a long ways away. Not always safe.
Outside that, nothing I can think of is stopping them. I don't see it as a problem, really. It seems realistic a city would hide their goods from marauders if they had enough time.

Re: How to pillage like a man and how to protect yourself.
Nope, makes sense. Just had an awful experience pillaging 2 islands away. I sent a Ram and Ballista, then sent 10 Swordsmen. Cost me an arm and a leg to begin with. Lost a Ballista somehow tho I can't see it on any report. And didn't get enough resources to make a damn. :-/
