    Assisting allies from attack?

How do I send troops to assist an ally under attack (ie Whiskeysix), I click on his town but only get the standard diplomacy, transport, pillage and spy icons.

Is there another way of sending units or is our only choice to attack his attacker?

I would assume that requires a military treaty which lets you garrison troops in a foreign city with increased upkeep.

There's no way to help wiskeysix weather the attack without that treaty, but we could make things more interesting.

What would happen if we staged our own blockade around Angelus' city? Wouldn't any returning goods/soldiers get caught in the blockade? We have 17 hours until the attack takes place and 21 hours until Wiskey is blockaded. Since the attack is much faster than the blockade it could be that no warships were sent (since they travel slower than cargo ships). I'm just making random guesses since I've been avoiding the military aspect of the game and focusing on merchantile and research.

Roger, about the military treaty. I would have thought being an ally would allow you to do something like that without having to get to that research stage.

The warships are slower than cargo ships and arrive later if they are sent at the same time. That's what I've found when I've pillaged people.

He should have sent the blockade first, then worked out how long until it arrived and organised for his foot troops to land after the blockade was in place.

If there are no warships with the pillaging force won't the cargo ships be turned away? You can send 100 swordsmen on an attack but if there's no escort they'll get turned away at the meresight of a single ram ship I thought.

True, if there is a "navy" and the opposing force is only in cargo ships..they will turn and run. I wish I had seen this before I engaged in a battle with a level 8 town. I am a bit involved at the moment, but if I win I will try to do what I can.
