    Colony upkeep?

I made a colony last night and I am running into something that I find peculiar. My colony is running at an upkeep cost of 119. I have no ships or military units here yet so where is this upkeep cost coming from???

it's shared with your capital. if you watch, over time the upkeep on the capital goes down while that on the colony goes up. I guess they all end up being on par with each other so the upkeep of your whole empire is shared by all cities in it.

Each plain old citizen you have earns you money. Every worker you have detracts from that (as it costs money to pay the workers). Check the slider bar on your wine production and notice that at some point it goes from positive to negative. In order to have a positive income for a colony/capital/anything, you have to have enough citizens to balance out the number of workers/ships/units/scientists you have employed.

It does not cost money to pay the workers, only the scientist. Although it just detracts from the normal 4gold/hour the worker would pay as a citizen.

Your military costs are spread thru out all of your cities.

They really should put military upkeep as a seperate line under the empire gold calculation in the upper left since its not armies aren't linked to their home city.

In the upper right hand corner where it shows how much gold you have, click on that to see your total upkeeps.
