I am pretty sure that they come and pick up the goods and pay you when they get there.

Re: Suggestions to increase gold
Simplest way you make buttloads of cash: undercut the market. Take your primary resources (wine, marble, whatever) and sell CHEAP. It costs you nothing to produce them so anything you make is pure profit, and if you lower the price you corner the market. Then all you have to worry about is keeping up with demand. 1000 sold at 10g is better than 0 sold at 30g.

Costs 8 gold per resource,
Citizen makes 4g/hour
Worker takes 0g/hour
Researcher takes 8g/hour
2 Workers=1 lux resource, 2 workers = 8g/hour

Ok and if you have the citizenship to balance that out, it's all profit.

Re: Suggestions to increase gold
With 3 towns, I have a combined income of 5200 all together.
Furthermore I sell my excess wood for 20-30 each, wine 20-30 each, and sulfur 13-15 each to net me thousands more in gold. This is on Gamma btw.
Upgrade your Townhall whenever you can as well as your Tavern. More citizens equals more potential gold through idling and collecting of resources. Protect your investment with Phalanxes as well since they will serve as a effective deterant to any pillagers looking for a easy pickings.

This is a basic and successful strategy to long term economic growth, but there is the potential for danger as well. As your town hall increases so will the amount of gold others can pillage from you. Therefore you will need to constantly upgrade your military as well when you grow in size to safeguard that weakness.
Low level cities give less gold so pillaging is less of an issue, but a high level city with only mediocre defenses will get reamed.
