WorkShop upgrades

simply put, Is it worth it to upgrade?
I plan on being mostly defensive in nature.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

I've heard they work just fine, they just do not show up on battle reports, or something.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Controversial, yes, no, maybe ... I don't think there has been a definitive answer from a developer.

The bonuses appear on the battle reports, but may not actually be used in the calculation! Yet, an Ikariam moderator (link) says they do work but are not displayed. Go figure...

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Because of all the ambiguity I'm just assuming they don't work at the moment so that I don't underestimate the force I need to attack someone. However, I have bought a few upgrades for the heck of it!

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Look at it this way fellas, they're probably going to fix it, so even if it doesnt show up now, it's still a good investment. Why? Because if the other guy does it and you dont, he may be able to mop the floor with you by using a smaller (but much more powerful) force after they fix it.

Regular Phalanx stats: 24 Attack/40 Defense
Upgraded Phalanx: 42 Attack/70 Defense (before defensive bonuses)
Archers go from being 40/40 to 70/70.
Seems worth it to me.

This also has gone both ways. One mod saying that it doesn't work and another saying that it does.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Yeah, I just ran the numbers as a test to show you guys.
A fully upgraded 10 phalanx/10 archer defensive force would require 10 phalanxes and 27 archers to overpower them. Thats a huge difference in terms of upkeep and troop cost. Upgrading is the way to go IMO.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Im going to upgrade regardless and Ive started a crystal island to get it done. Im thinking the large alliances will all have upgraded units when the BIG wars start.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

First off EVERYONE should upgrade their catapult's offense to level 1 as soon as they can. It's currently (or was) bugged so that it didn't require and crystal to do.

After that its up to you if you want to invest crystal into upgrades or turn it around for your academies/research.

Currently upgraded numbers will show up on the initial battle report for troops on both sides, but will not show up on subsequent reports of battles or be calculated with the total offense/defense each side has.

The only way to test if it is working would be to take one of the same unit and pit them against each other in a town without walls with different upgrade levels and see which one wins then repeat the experiment multiple times to rule out random chance.

Of course, no one wants to do something like that, so we'll be left in the dark which reports are in error, the initial or the progress.

Re: WorkShop upgrades

Someone just needs to repeat the archer and the phalanx battle like was shown before. Neither could kill each other. Just need to upgrade one of them to be able to take out the other without using wall bonuses and you would have your answer.
