    SPIES! An inquiry.

First, a humorous conversation in the spirit of "Overheard in Game"

chris2, an inhabitant of the same island as my main colony Chocolat, and I had this conversation shortly in response to a polite mass mailing I sent around to everyone asking them to donate to our Quarry and Sawmill. It really was polite, not snarky in any way, and I used it to determine who was active and who not so I could launch same island attacks.

Remember to read this in reverse:
    chris2,
Clearly what we have here is a failure to communicate. What is it you'd like me to donate to?

    It's been a while, and I haven't heard back.

I have a spy sitting in his level 10 town (with almost no military). I'd escalate matters with the transparent "rudeness" excuse, but he has almost no supplies either.

    Code:
    Mission: Spy out garrison
    Target town: NEW DR
    Date: 11.04.2008 17:24:10
    Status: Mission successfully accomplished!
    Report:
    	Troops in NEW DR
    Unit Quantity
    Phalanx 1
    	Fleets in NEW DR
    Ship Quantity
    Ram-Ship 2
    Now my question:
Is spy detection figured per hour, or per action? Can I keep my spy there with no chance of detection if he doesn't do anything but passively report building upgrades, or should I haul his ass out of there the moment his discovery chance is 5% again?

I have had a spy in one place now for probably 7 days in one location checking on stuff from time to time. I always seem to get caught leaving.

You stand a greater chance of discovery trying to make them leave then stay there, but yes they can be discovered when just sitting there dunno how it is figured but oddly it has only happened to me with-in a few hours of a spy getting to a town. I have had spys sit in towns for weeks and nothing happens. So from my experience it is very unlikely a spy will get discovered just sitting in a town.

The detection rate drops the longer they stay without being productive. Theoretically, they blend into the society and go more unoticed. I ahve yet to have one detected by sitting around.

my reply is to just straight out make an example about how not to be rude to other players and utterly destroy him!!!!!!!

I thought the blessings were still bugged. Is there any advantage to donating money?

Spies help, but I think having a small town hall helps a lot too.

Yes, the lower the town level(population) the easier to detect spies also. Always keep at least one in your own town. My bigger colonies(level 13) I try to keep at least 4 spies on defense.

Are they on defense as long as they are not out on missions? or is there something else you have to do?

Correct, just keeping them in your town will keep them on the defense. Basically, they just hang around and look for other spies. So, I have 3 out on missions and 4 on defense in my capital.
