Trading Post help?

At the trading post I had 650 crystal and put up 400 to offer to sell for 6 gold a peice or something like that, the only think I notice now is that im 250 crystal and no gold or anything and from what I see theirs no way to cancel out in offer to get my stuff back.. Is this a glitch or what?

Re: Trading Post help?

the crystal got moved to the trading post (it shows a storage capacity if you'll notice). The gold doesn't show up till someone actually comes to buy it.

You can set the amount you have for sale back to 0 and it will show back up in your total count at the top.

Ah alright, ty for explaining.. What happens when lets say you have 500 in stock,501 is maximum you can have so you put 2 peices up for sale and you go back to having 500 and then set the sale back down to 0?

Re: Trading Post help?

I hope I'm not the only one confused by what that said.

If you're asking what I think you're asking then you missed one important thing. Your maximum storage capacity of your warehouse remains just that, your maximum storage capacity.

If you move goods from your warehouse to your trading post for sale then the storage space is temporarily alloted to the trading post instead of your warehouse. That means if you could hold 1000 goods in your warehouse and move 500 to your trading post, your maximum storage limit will drop by 500 as well. You are still storing the goods, its just that you can no longer withdraw them from your warehouse for use until you remove them from the trading post.

If you had a maximum capacity of 500 and moved 2 units to your trading post then your maximum capacity would drop to 498. If you moved them back out to your warehouse it would go back up to 500.

BTW, if you're selling luxury goods (marble, sulfur, crystal, and wine) for less than 8 gold then you might as well give it away because you're taking a loss. It takes 2 citizens to harvest one luxury resource and each citizen naturally produces 4 gold per hour in taxes. That means, at the minimum, it costs you 8 gold for the 2 citizens it takes to collect 1 luxury resource per hour. On that note it takes 4 gold or 1 citizen per hour to collect 1 unit of wood.

Prices may vary from location to location, but if you're planning on selling your resources for below cost then you're better off pulling your workers out of the node and leaving them as citizens to tax.

Re: Trading Post help?

Alright yea, that pretty much answered my question, sorry about the wording.. Been tired lately..

Whats a good way to start trading in the early game, I mean I just need a couple more peices of gold and wood before I can start my first colony on a wine island but then will still need marble and a lot of the TGA members seem to be far away and my market is just a lvl 2 meaning I still have a 1 island radius and the only other guy on my island hasnt responded to my message I sent him,

Re: Trading Post help?

Heres a few things.
-Range only increases every two levels, so upgrade you trading post once more to level 3 and you'll get a better range.
-Range only helps when buying from others. People buying from you will find your stuff if you offer it.
-Dont bother selling small quantities. People most likely aren't going to want to waste a trade ship for 10 pieces of crystal.
-Try selling your crystal for 30 and give it a few hours to see if anyone bites. Lower the price if you can't sell after a while.

And if you haven't ready, max out all of your production and sell your excess resources to cover the net loss you'll have.

Re: Trading Post help?

If you need something then the best place to do trades is by using the classified boards and posting what you need and what you have for trade. Regardless of how far away people are an incoming good is still an incoming good.

the trading post is very dependent on market influences and it could be days before you get a good deal. With a TGA trade you know you'll get one as soon as the deal is signed.
