I think I am doing something wrong. I have almost 500,000 gold. That seems like alot. I can't really spend it, most my warehouses are full. And for the same reason I can't move people to harvesting.

What do you do with all your gold?

I've got over 1 mil in reserve right now. I also have 30 trade ships, so I'm not really needing any more of those. For most part, I'm saving and stocking up for the when we goto war with someone. With my current income, I could fill out an army twice the size of my current one, but I don't want to deal with upkeep in times of peace.

I made 200k in the last day just to get out of the 100k range I've been stuck in due to my area selling my luxury resources so cheap in the market. Both wine and sulfur have been in the 10-12g range for a long time, so it was not even worth selling. So I used the trader to convert some of my extra sulfur into marble, and sold it.

My upkeep is killing me, I may stay where I'm at with my military for awhile, as its slowing me down on upgrading now.

Are you selecting different cities from the pull-down just to the right of your gold? That's how you send out workers from different colonies to mine/harvest.

Down in my area I am selling marble for 90g each and not only are people buying it, I am one of the few that offers is for some strange reason.

Also - upgrade your trading post so you can trade far and wide.

I guess the bottom line is that gold is needed for two things:

1) to fund military escapades - when you start getting into bigger battles, the short term upkeep costs go up a lot, and it's important to have that "rainy day fund".

2) to buy cheap goods so you can then resell them at a markup. if you can buy out everything in the area, you can set whatever price you want.

I would say that you should be upgrading your warehouses. With that kind of coinage you could buy any resources you don't have and get a bigger capacity.

Also, Mach, how do you deal with only having 30 trade ships? I have almost 45 and often find myself running out.

Heh, I'm one of those people I'd love to pillage (until I see my level 14 walls). Level 15 colony, 1.3M cash, and a full-ish level 12 warehouse (it's 17h from TaGAsphere and my capital).
