2 marble or glass?
With the current requirments for governors residences and corruption the importance of marlbe has shot up.
I currently have a wine capital, lvl 13 marble town and a lvl 11 sulfor. I haven't really needed crystal but it wont be long before I have Glass researched. Plus upgrades do require glass. I could definately use a second marble city but it will be another round of huge upgrading to get a crytal city then.
Thoughts on whats better, 2nd marble colony or a glass one?

I just struggled with this myself and eventually decided to go with a crystal island and alot more pillaging for marble. It has actually worked out well as I can now upgrade all of my Governor Residences and thus raise my productivity on my marble island as well as have glass for workshop upgrades and doctors.

I personally have chosen to diversify with all 4 resources. The next patch will be changing marble around and introing new buildings that will balance down the need for marble and increase the need for sulfer (purportedly).

I had my fourth colony going before the change. I choose to take advantage of all four resources. That was before these ******* GR's. If your able to continuously pillage you'll be fine. As long as I am pillaging I don't really need marble.

Thanks guys. I really like the prospect of being indepent in having all 4 resources. I will just have to be a bigger and badder pirate errr... I mean liberate some more marble.

if i had known this was coming, I would not have gone to 4 towns..that is, my main and 3 colonies..I have 2 that have 4 and 2 that have 3, and the ones that have 3 are already upgraded..when you add that 4th, HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS BIRDIE it takes a LOT..I have been working 2 straight days trying to get wood and crystal etc..and I am nowhere near done..I hope to be good my the middle of next week, but it is gonna be a real buttstomping...

I can tell you tham my most successful account is one that lucked out and started on a crystal island..I then went to marble and then to wine...there seems to be a huge supply of cheap sulfur so I have been stockpiling since the beggining so I have huge supply...
If I could "pick" where to start on a fresh account I would go with marble without a doubt...but I have 2 Sulfurs, 1 wine, and 1 Crystal and as stated above, the Crystal account is by far the best overall I have...
I am now up to almost 3 hours a day jacking with Ikariam..I have "pillager" issues on 2 of the accounts, and it seems that 1 will fade away, but the other is major and will probably result in me closing that account out..I have no Alliance on that account and there is no TGA on that world..so I am probably doomed...but it will free up more time to work the other accounts though..

MARBLE for sure, because to upgrade your Gov Residences you also need to upgrade your warehouses (which cost lots of marble). e.g.To upgrade my GR's to lvl 4 I have to have lvl 16 warehouses (cost about 10000 marble in total lvl9 -> lvl16) and then 27520 marble to do the GR upgrade.

I have two marble and it just not enough, It goes so freakin fast. I will prob start a third marble.

also - you can keep your 4th city 'mobile' to suit your short-term needs. If you need marble now, go marble - then later when you need crystal, pack-up shop and move to a crystal island.
For your city of migrant workers, you just need to crank up a tavern and town hall. Add a level 3-4 warehouse and port, and you're good to go... daily shipments from that 'outpost' will be sent to your 'primary', so you'll never have enough goods on hand to make it a target (you'll also have a relatively low town hall, so you won't be a target for gold either)... save the goods you'd spend on a 4th wall/barracks/drydock/museum/GR/etc and invest it in your 'big three' cities.

BTW, 0.2.2 is coming out Monday and they said they fixed workshop upgrades. It makes crystal seem all the more tempting, but I myself am making my 3rd colony a marble one.
2 marble, 1 crystal, 1 wine = profitMy sanity is not in question...
It was a confirmed casualty some time ago.

Well I went with a crystal colony. Its nice but damn now I need more marble then ever!!!! I can't even buy marble locally, at most people sell a 100 pieces or so.
I keep dumping tons of lumber into my marble mine but no one else is matching me. I have dumped 15 000 in wood, the next closest is something like 5000. Grrr, time to knock on a few doors, with a battle axe if need be.

When the news about the GR's came out I decided to try out the premium service. I don't use any of the stuff you pay for per week I just use the premium trader.
This is where the premium trader comes in handy. Just stockpile whatever resources you have then convert them to what you need.
So far in about 2 weeks I've put the 3rd level on my palace and 2 GR's and am up to the 2nd level on my 3rd GR for my newest colony. I just have to get my warehouse up to 9 before I have the space to hold the resources.
Oh and something else nice with the trader. You can generally buy sulfur for 10 to 15 each compared to 40+ for most other items. Just buy it by the boat load and convert it 1 to 1 once you've stockpiled enough.Ikariam Wars = Talus - Sulfur, Talanium - Marble, Talopolis - Wine, Talusgrad - Crystal, Talusberg - Wine.

Even with glass research, the only real need for crystal is the workshop upgrades. Marble all the way! I can never have enough.
