You cant do it directly, but you sell/buy wood for 99. If you want to send someone 10k gold, you just buy 101 wood from them at 99 gold a piece
According to the rules at the Ikariam board, this would be illegal. You are buying goods at extremely higher than normal market prices according to them. There is no way that I know of to directly trade gold.
I guess it depends on your interpretation of that rule:
* Trades that mean an unfair profit to the higher ranked player by make use of range of ratios which are far off the world-specific ones.
What determines an "unfair profit"? Also, I would assume the higher ranked person would have more gold and would be buying the lower ranked person's resources. If that is fair, then the reverse should be as well.
The surrounding market determines the prices and if you read the clarification question below the rule in the thread provided, it's not left up to interpretation. The only thing that is left up to interpretation is the interpretation of the surrounding market. My point was this, BE CAREFUL! I just didn't want anyone to have the wrong idea and wind up getting banned over it. There is definitely a gap in market prices so according to the rules, using this method should be acceptable as long as you observe the player rankings and the market in your area while not pricing to the extreme above the surrounding market.
Looks as if from the post that only if the Higher ranks gain profit its breaking a rule? I was wondering this topic for a bit anyway since I'm in need of gold for my first colony and it'd take like 5 days with no resource gathering to gain the money I need -.-
Going to try Pillaging and hope I make profit.

RULES! What you talking about Willis!
This is a free-trade game, money and might, make the rules.
Currently I'm basically struggling with all my resources, I'm on a crystal island and I have wood and crystal set to 1 per hour so I can get my money up, but still I only have 5000Gold...it will take forever -.- I need sulfur to pillage but my one friend doesn't even have close to Expansion yet, so I'll just wait like a week or two and hopefully I'll have the gold if I'm lucky(Then I can finally get my Marble Colony and hopefully upgrade some buildings).

Mirage. FYI. Go pillage one or two of the towns that have been abandoned by fellow TGers that have left the game. Its not great money but its constant and without risk. Ive been hitting Inactive towns for a few weeks and it has paid off well. Take a look at the leaving TGA thread for cords near you. Ive been hitting TG-Aculle01 towns since he left. Go taste the fruit from the money tree, its sweet.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
