I don't think there are any specific policies

If its someone else one your island not donating, you could pillage them and donate their resources yourself (with prior warning yourself)

But if its yourself donating your worrying about, just donate a bit according to your current amount
Say about anything from a quarter to a twentieth of what you've got

Or you could just try not to have donated the least amount on your island

Just whatever you personally feel is appropriate
