Re: Is the Insurgency dead?
OB engine adds a lot of optimisations and some new features.
Mostly 2.1 is bugfixes. However, I am disturbed to see that bullets seem to hurt less now. I always liked the Ghost Recon system, where you're either fine, hurt, or toast. It seems to me they became proud of their blur and bullet-whizzing-by sounds, and nerfed lead so we could 'enjoy' it more. I don't like being able to shake off six bullet wounds just because none of them hit the head or chest hitbox. Likewise, at long range the grunt rifles are plenty accurate to hit people but it rarely kills them, and worse, the sniper rifles seem to drop off similarly. Karkar caverns is a nightmare for the Marines, and yet five shots on an Insie with the USMC sniper rifle does nothing because despite catching the insie in the face, it was non-lethal, so he ducks behind cover for one second and regenerates using magic videogame power.
Pistols are a joke, too. For some reason I can panic and gutshot a teammate for an instant kill, but I can crawl up behind an enemy, fire three shots three times, and the guy I've killed a whole lot is waiting for his reload animation to complete so he can gib me. Pistols need to be strong for about 50 feet and then drop off to ineffectuality so they can do what they're supposed to do -- be useful when your primary weapon is inappropriate.
If they increase the penalty for failure in 3.0 I'll be happy, but if I want arcade damage, I have TF2.
