Half Life 2 Deathmatch is what you need to get. It's the multiplayer for HL2, you can buy it off Steam or you might have bought a pack including HL2Dm. If you got Deathmatch free with your graphics card then it won't work, and you will need to buy another source game (like Day of Defeat Source, Counterstrike Source etc.)

Pretty much completely untrue. lol. All you need is HL2, and it doesn't even need to be installed. Once you download INS it will install and then it will self install the Source SDK. Then you are good to go. You need none of the games mentioned above.

It's hard to compare the two of them. Just like comparing CSS with BF2. INS is a close-quarters, BF2 is on a big battlefield.

wait a second, i don't know if i got HL2 from my vid card or not, I have a ATI Radeon X1600 but i do have Steam.
But if i have HL2 DeathMatch or HL2: Lost Coast I wont be able to get INSURGENCY? (i am unsure how i got these 2 games to show up when i log into my steam account)
But if i have a steam account and install INS i can play it without having the above or CSS or HL2?
I'm a bit confused.....
