I read a write-up in PC Gamer magazine about this mod just yesterday evening and was going to make a post about it
I'll try to give everyone an idea what it is from what I remember of the article
It's a mod built off the Half Life 2 engine.
Like the title (Insurgency) suggests, it's based in current day Iraq.
Each team has a chain of command, similar to BF2. Platoon commander, squad leader, and fire team leader. Gameplay is focused on slow-paced, realistic infantry combat and is objective oriented.
It sounded like there were different classes but the only one they mentioned was medic. You can patch yourself up if your wound is minor. Some vehicles will be included but not controllable by players, instead they are NPC's such as a tank that will cruise around and if given areas to move to or attack will follow those orders (sounds interesting).
No crosshairs available, but iron sights is
The screenshots in PC Gamer looked really good. PC Gamer said it looks like it will be the first breakout mod for HL2. They didn't give specifics, but they said the mod team has done other work for Call of Duty and something else (maybe UT2004?).
I'll check out the teaser when I get home from work.

We've had a decent sized media release incase any of you missed it. Quite a few screenshots were given to the media aswell as a new website design.
