First Impressions?

What do you all think of Insurgency so far? Pros/Cons?

Re: First Impressions?

The game, overall, is pretty good. I enjoy the sense of realism, the weapons, the objective based gameplay, and the overall "look" and "feel" of the game. A couple things I don't like are the lack of a map (I don't want a minimap-radar...just something to get some situational awareness from when I spawn), the models are kinda cheesey, the insurgent voice over is extremely unbelievable, and the numerous server bugs that cause it to crash too often.

Those things will all get worked out in the future I'm sure. This game is gonna be golden.

EDIT: Some things I think would be nice to see for our server specifically is either an increase in the timer or an increase in deployments. It seems like we lose out on a lot of the teamwork aspects because we're trying to outrun the clock and match the infinite insurgent deployments on some maps. It'd be nice to see the game slowed down a bit.

Re: First Impressions?

I agree atomic, it would be nice to see lots of different things on win conditions. Unfortunately there is no documentation on it so it's a guessing game.

I love this game, easily one of my favorite games atm. But some problems:
  1. Bugged squad and team menus. There confusing, and they rarely give you the gun you chose.
  2. Needs better squad leader control.
  3. Needs a map.
  4. Needs to be easier to be a squad member. It took awhile to figure out how the compass worked, since half the time squad leaders didn't know they were leaders and didn't know how to set the way points.
  5. Better voice comms. http://forums.insmod.net/index.php?showtopic=5860 <-click

Re: First Impressions?

Just a tip, the squad menu isn't bugged it's the user trying to select a position that isn't available. You get pushed the first one available. You can't go to the next part of the squad menu until there is a full squad already going so selecting a loadout from the next menu will just put you in the first available position in squad 1.

Re: First Impressions?

Seems like a fun game. Pretty easy on the PC too which I of course like

I really wish we had compass headings though, I saw some in some screen shots but for me I don't see them in game.

And quick weapon switching would be a godsend. Same with commos. Scrolling around is a pain.

Re: First Impressions?

I think the mod is AWESOME! But, there are a few things that annoy me.

1. The Insurgents squad setup is worthless for one. Who needs two RPG's in one squad??? I for one would remove One RPG(or both because they are worthless, IMO) and replace it with a rifleman slot. Another thing they could do is replace one RPG with an AK47/GP-25 for a Grenadier slot.

2. Speaking of Grenadiers, does anyone know exactly how to fire the M203 accurately? I like that it fires in a high angle arc so that people can't noob tube you like in BF2 but it is incredibly hard to put a round on target with that thing.

3. When you deploy the U.S. Marines sniper rifle with the bipod, the scope is incredibly shaky and it is hard to get a bead on a target(you are better off, in my opinion, never using the bipod). If they could make the scope more stable when the rifle is deployed, it would be perfect.

4. The Engineer/Sapper could really use another function such as placing claymores or anti-personnel mines for the U.S. and Insurgents respectively.

5. For some reason trained soldiers(U.S. Marine Commanders) don't understand how to prop their weapons up on the edge of a wall so that when they aim with their Aimpoint scope it doesn't hit the wall below them...

That's about all I can think of as of right now. I hope this mod's community at TG gets alot bigger.

Re: First Impressions?

I love this mod

I think that it has great potential here at TG. I love the squad play, the teamwork and the maps. There are alot of bugs, but after all, it is a beta.

I cant wait until more maps comes out for this, and a commo rose would be great. But other than that, it is still an excellent game.

Re: First Impressions?

Im liking it more than my earlier rant now that ive been kicking ass on it lol.

My real inoyance comes when people don't know how to use the kits or when to use them. Basicaly If your gonna pick the Rifleman please use it as your suposed to and attack the objective, let the Support Gunner defend an area. And if you have the Engineer then why are you trying to snipe, either create an ambush or follow a Rifleman so that you have a close range weapon in your fire team when breaching buildings.

Im sure this will resolve after more play however and when more people are comfortable with there styles of play.

Re: First Impressions?

Shotguns rock in close-quarters maps. Don't try to engage at a distance, though. You'll lose. Just move quick, don't bother with iron sights. Blast away.

As for the M203, you have to actually use the leaf sight in reverse. In real life, you align the ladder notches with the sight post in accordance to the estimated range. Bottom notch is 100m, I seem to recall. It goes up all the way to 300m (although you can reach 400m by using the very top of the leaf sight).

Instead of going bottom to top, you have to aim top to bottom. That is, the top of your leaf sight is for close ranges, while the bottom of the leaf sight is for the distance shots.

Not just that. I was playing sniper, fired twice, the dood's still wiggling around, I unzoom and see two decals in the sandbags. >_>

The T's voices are a bit goofy, but the CTs aren't much better.

Was anyone pubbing last night? I was, and it seemed everywhere I went there was a myg0t DJ playing the 80's greatest hits over vox.

I can see why the M203 would be a compromise to aim in a video game, but I mentioned in the other thread that the aiming system seemed a bit flakey. Might be related to the bullets-from-rifle issue we're seeing with scopes.

Don't the T's rocketmans get pistol? If so, then they should be good for both knocking out chokepoints and for rading alleyways. I use pistol frequently and successfully.

Re: First Impressions?

I haven't really had much problem aiming beyond the realistic depiction of your rounds not hitting with laser-precision. My first shot generally hits what I'm aiming at, however.

My largest first impression, however, is how a large majority of these maps are much, much easier to defend by the insurgents as opposed to assaulting as the Marines. Combine that with the infinite amount of waves that the insurgents can produce (effectively a limitless supply of bad guys) and you have quite the tactical challenge when playing as Marines.

I like that, though. I like it for the challenge, and I like it because it makes players want to join the insurgents, as opposed to everyone wanting to play a Marine. I almost always choose the Marine side and was worried that nobody would wish to play as the Insurgents.

Re: First Impressions?

Awesome game can't wait till the real deal comes out. Love the realism. I get back in our reagular CSS server and wonder, wheres tha beef? OMG communication is a must. We have to talk constantly and learn our areas around objectives to be successful Teams. As far as a map. What if there is no map? We have to play hardcore.

Also should we see the name of who killed us? Will that add to the fun factor. Because in this game there is no chatter, its strict play Less chatter tho and you will get alot more serous play and less headaches for the admin. The creators will fix most of the bugs and probably create new ones for people to pick there brains about.

P.S. Once shots are fired if you don't know where there coming from to prone behind an object is to live.

Re: First Impressions?

Hey guys..

Had alot of fun with you guys playing yesterday....just saw on the ins website they are planning on a patch release pretty soon. http://www.insmod.net/

Anyway, I used to be a big Armed Assault player here at TG and before that a BF2 player...then real life got ahold of me and I didn't have time for any gaming...

I'm back for a bit now...and I'm looking forward to joining you all on the INS server..
