No wonder I was getting hit!
Many times during play, I have no idea where I'm getting hit from. I know I have cover against a wall but I keep getting popped. Well apparently, where we are looking and how the enemy sees us are two different things. Check out this post on the INS forum, it explains a lot about wrong view perspectives and why we keep shooting into sand bags and getting hit when we thought we had cover:

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
I'm glad someone finally figured that out and posted proof. This is what i figured was going on. It ruins the game atm.

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
Yea, that explains alot. I've died behind cover many times where I didn't think the enemy had a line of sight on me. Since it is so difficult to tell where you get shot from in this mod, I just figured someone else had flanked me, etc. Now I'm sure that, some of the time at least, I was getting hit by the known enemy that I thought I was covered from.

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
I'm having more fun with Insurgency in it's buggy constant crashing state than I've had with CS:S in years.
Sure it is annoying, but it goes both ways, and certainly is an easy fix.
Remember when CS:S had the crouch issue? That didn't ruin the game, and was eventually taken care of.

I have a feeling Insurgency will be a winner at TG.

It already is. The server has been full with SM's already! That's fantastic.

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
Hmm, after reading through the thread it looks like it's part of the Source engine and may not be fixable by the INS team. Apparently the same issue is in CS:S and Valve never fixed it for them. This really sucks because I feel it really dampens the tactical game play. Oh, I'll still play the heck out of it, but it will always be missing an important aspect of cover.

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
Makarov, many of the people on that forum have no idea what they're talking about at the moment. It's not an engine bug and unfixable. This is not a problem in CSS either. Look at DOD:S and you can compare and see it's a problem with the mod. If you don't have DOD:S or never played it then you'll have to trust me.

Vulcan, that's great to hear. I played very little CS:S and DOD:S. Thanks for clearing that up!

Re: No wonder I was getting hit!
I expect this is related.
The CSS perspective thing was fixed. The issue was firstperson camera fell into the crotch of the croutched player. This let people attack in Train as if they were prone, height-wise, but their heads were well protected by the traincar they were inside of. Valve fixed the camera so it sinks to the croutching model's head position.
All INS needs to do is sync up the hitboxes and bind the camera. As for the bullets-hitting-low, trignometry would fix that, and you could do it so the gun, sighted or no, aims at what the player sights on, or simply make it parallel to vision, and have it a known fact that shots it between one and three inches low (depending on ironsights or scopes).Last edited by MagnaCentipede; 07-06-2007 at 06:07 PM.
