Ricochets
I understand that all bullets do NOT ricochet, and most of them (if they actually do) will 99% of the time go at a different angle than the first one. The game despite saying it does, seems to not have any ricochets what-so-ever. Somebody else and I were testing it in the server the other day when nobody was there. We calculated our angles, etc. and fired at least several clips into several different wall surfaces. Not a single one of the bullets hit its target, or anything behind the target for that matter. I am just now thinking this as I'm typing, but this should probably go under Schwa's thread about bugs and what-not.

Re: Ricochets
I recall someone spamming M249 into the ceiling of a garage, ricocheting his teammate, and wondering why.

Re: Ricochets
Before the patch there definitley were ricochets but I haven't investigated them since the patch. I was using the door of a humer and the bullets were bouncing off. You don't seem to be able to shoot yourself with a ricochet though...

Re: Ricochets
Pre-patch I remember sitting in some window overlooking an alley with a para. An enemy had been sighted moving in, I spot him, open fire...little did I know a teammate just below me was also moving up on him and was just around a corner to my location. I ended up killing the enemy, but the bullet ricochet managed to hit my teammate around the corner.

Before the patch I got hit by ricochets under a car... I heard the noice and got hit, + I saw the tracers missing me before I got hit. Havnt checked since the patch though.

Re: Ricochets
Makes sense. Buildings in Iraq are constructed of fairly-shoddy plaster/concrete mix. In Afghanistan, it's straight mud mixed with hay and left to dry in the sun (although the huts/buildings constructed with this harden to something akin to solid stone under the Afghan sun). Bullets are more likely to bury themselves in concrete, but bounce of the metal of the Humvees and tanks.
I suppose they coded the different surfaces into the game.

Re: Ricochets
bullets also don't necessaily bounce at supposedly correct angles. They've been known to even hug walls instead of bouncing directly off them. They mention this in the book, Black Hawk Down. I don't have the book with me but I'll quote it later.

Re: Ricochets
Oh, yeah, we're taught to aim low with the shotgun, because even if you hit the ground instead of your target, as long as the angle is less than 45 degrees the pellets will skim the ground and hit the bad guy below the knees. Very useful if there's someone on the other side of a car or truck. Just aim for the ground on this side and it'll take out the guys feet on the other side!
