Spawn camping
Sorry the link was broken. Here is a copy of the original post.
Why we don't Spawn Camp - from: Crimson Scare
1. Spawn camping is neither taking nor defending objectives
The goal of Insurgency missions are to take or defend objectives, sometimes both. It is how you progress across the map, get reinforcements, get points and bragging rights. It is how you win.
2. Spawn camping can be ultimately ineffective
There is some genius out there that will argue, "Isn't denying them reinforcements helping to take/defend objectives?" While that player and his comrades are busy getting their rocks off jacking their scores up on cheap pansy kills, some sneaky player(s) that they didn't realize were still alive are circling behind them and capping. Said genius will then utter that infamous phrase of nubbish wisdom common to Insurgent campers, "How did we lose B?!?!?!" There is an equivalent on the Marine side, "Oh, crap, we're out of reinforcements? Anyone else still alive?"
3. Spawn camping is no fun for the campee
Insurgency is a game. We all play games for one reason, to have fun. But when some skilless wussy is continually killing players trying to respawn, it doesn't just lose its fun, it becomes tedious. Might as well be spectating...or watching golf. Reactions vary to this from players leaving to switching sides to tk the offending parties. On our server I warn, then I kick, then I ban.
4. Spawn camping is unrealistic
At its core, the Insurgency modders are trying to offer us as intense and realistic a combat experience as they can, without actually getting our heads shot off. In reality, Marines don't pop out of thin air to be cutdown like clay pigeons by an Insurgent with an RPK.
In reality, any Insurgent stupid enough to walk into a Marine Combat Base or Rally point would be facing several hopped up, gung ho, trigger happy members of the most brutal combat force in the history of warfare. Said Insurgent might have time to blink before he was turned into swiss cheese.
By the same token, any Marine foolish enough to stumble into an Insurgent camp would be facing several pissed off, merciless, trigger happy members of one of the most implacable forces in the history of modern combat. Said Marine would be fortunate if they just turned him into swiss cheese.
Finally, in reality, Marines who were that pined down that they couldn't make any forward progress simply wouldn't. They'd call in the artillery and play a little game of "Scorched Earth" on the offenders (in particular, I think of Fallujah, where Marines leveled a building to take out ONE sniper). And Insurgents, they would just slip back into the shadows and fight another day, with more ambushes, IEDs and suicide bombs.
A note if you are being spawn camped: - from: Lobos
USE ANOTHER F**KING EXIT AND FLANK THE MOFOS!
So many times I've been in Ramadi, the map were C is a crater in the middle of a road in one of the flanks, A is a school, and B is some ruins in the middle of the map, and have the enemy camp one of the exits from the spawn. The Marines have 2 exits (plus some windows to take down snipers) and the Inurgents have 3 1/2 exits. Just take a different exit and find a way to flank the campers (or go cap the obj). Very rarely does a team camp every single exit available to the other team. And if they do this, just keep popping smoke and going thru till you get thru the area, and flank em. Make sure you tell everyone that the campers are down so those cowards that just run out or just camp in their own spawn know the boogy men left. You should also learn where the more common camping points are (like below the middle exit from insurgent spawn or the wall on the 'left' end of the road on marine spawn). Another great technique is to pick up an RPG or M203 and just fire them near where you think they are camping from, this usually kills em before they even get a chance to shoot you. In other words, Smoke, Nade, Run, Flank, simple really.
Unfortunately, very few times is there an admin available to kick the spawn campers. And if there is an admin it is hard for him to determine just who is spawn camping due to lack of kill notifications. Whining about it with no admins present is useless, the enemy just won't listen to you and generally doesn't care that you call him names over an internet game. So if there is no admin present, just shut up, and find a way to flank em.
It would be great that nobody spawn camped as it is not very fun, unrealistic, and ineffective. But it DOES happen and people have to figure out how to get around it. I personally don't do it (only times I cross an enemy spawn exit is to flank an objective) as I prefer to outmaneuver my enemy and get them from angles and positions they don't expect.
We have the same sort of attitude about spawn camping in AtF
From: AtF | Cabal
We do however take it one step further though due to the absence of any Admins on Australasian servers.
In the event of a consistant spawn camper (not someone that was unlucky enough to be flanking when everyone spawned around him etc...the retard that deploys his rpk or saw and waits for the next wave) we'll switch teams & assist with the removal of said camper. Informing him that his behavior is not acceptable or sportsman like Wink
9 times out of 10 its enough to correct the behavior as the lone spawn camper will always be out numbered by clanned players willing to TK him for being a dick. On the 1 in 10 that it doesn't work on, they'll try to be cool & say they dont care & start TK'ing their own team in an attempt to get you, but out numbered by higher skilled players they'll give up and not come back.
This also works for the hackers as well to a certain extent.
Obviously spawn protection or re-designing of the map spawn points to prevent spawn killing is what's eagerly awaited, so I'm not suggesting you adopt the same "unofficial policy" but until then, doing a little evil to combat a bigger evil isn't unjustified.
And adding some more points: - from: Rottweiler
1. Spawncamping kills Servers.
How much fun is it to get your cheap kills...and then the entire other team leaves? Whee, now it's Insurgents 15 Marines 2 (and those two are afk.)
2. Outflanking- good in Theory, bad in Practice.
I do this a lot, and WIllpower and Face can probably vouch for my Sneaky, but take Ramadi- 2 RPK's, an RPG, and 5 random weapons are camping the Alpha spawn. How do you 'outflank' that? Both spawn exits are in range, not to mention the RPG rounds' splash damage kills you through walls.
Sometimes, all you can do is switch teams and TK, which is sad.

Thanks Digital USMC and other contributors, I felt that this was an important point to make and you guys did it so well. I hope you don't mind me stealing it from yas!!
...and if you run into any of their boys beware. LOL
