    Expansion Pack :)

I "borrowed" this from the GWJ board.

    From GameSpy:

    Joint Ops: Escalation
    Developer: Novalogic | Publisher: Novalogic
    Release Date: November

Novalogic shortens the name but expands the game in this first official expansion to Joint Operations. Not much is known about add-on pack (heck, it won't even be formally announced until later this week), but our spies tell us you can expect several new environments, characters, and (probably most importantly) several new vehicles to keep things exciting. Joint Ops has carved out a dedicated audience for itself with its massive 100-player+ battles, and this expansion should only keep that going.

Please please please, put in some AAA! My kingdom for a ZSU-33

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT IS OUT!!! (borrowed from dfmax.com)

    Calabasas, Ca (September 16th, 2004) – November 16th 2004 should be
marked on the calendar of all Joint Ops fans, as that date sees the
release of Joint Ops: Escalation, the first expansion pack for the Number 1
Selling, world record breaking, large scale FPS.
The conflict in Indonesia has spilled over to other parts of Asia where
rebel troops have gained support in the war against the newly
reinforced Joint Ops forces. Set against a backdrop of South East Asia that
includes Airports, Radar Tracking Stations and Rocket launch facilities,
players enlist once more to take part in intense large scale modern FPS
combat, in games of up to 150 players online.
As the battles shift to different locations, new vehicles enter the
fray: Attack Choppers and Battle Tanks make their debut, along with Mobile
SAM Launchers and Dirt Bikes. Players will also be able to make
airborne insertions into hot zones via Parachute.
Joint Ops: Escalation will also feature:
    Ceramic Body Armor.
Optional 3rd Person weapon view for select vehicles.
New emplaced weaponry for enhanced base defense.
Over 25 new maps, including new Co-Op and Training missions.
Set in Indonesia in the near future, Joint Ops is the record breaking,
largest multiplayer Modern Combat FPS game ever released. Developed
using NovaLogic’s enhanced Black Hawk™ engine, with superior multiplayer
technology, Joint Ops lets gamers play revolutionary 150 player games,
across vast terrains online over NovaWorld.
Joint Ops: Escalation ships in November on PC CD ROM.

Parachuting, body armor and tons of new maps should keep this game interesting...

No, they plan on releasing an expansion of bugs and other annoyances. Nova Logic don't have enough in the first release so they're bringing out this

Is anyone actually going to consider buying this after NL ripped you off with the first game?

Ummm... I hadn't realized that I had been ripped off! Thank you *so much*, Jex, for pointing out that all the enjoyment I have gotten out of playing this game was in fact a lie. Mine eyes are opened... I have been robbed of well earned money, and given false happiness.

Sheesh... I realize *you* and others feel ripped off (as evidenced by your total abandonment of this game ), but do you seriously believe that the rest of us are just as miserable? *I* certinly don't feel ripped off. In fact, I'd say, that all griping aside about the well known flaws, I and many others have found the game to be decent, and that the new content that NL is promoting for the expansion sounds very appealing.

Please don't impose your dissatisfaction on everyobody else and expect they believe as you do.

I don't exactly feel ripped off but I do feel it's a little early for an expansion pack. They haven't turned on stats tracking. NILE is still beta. There are a few bugs that have to be worked out as mentioned in the glitches thread. I'm not quite ready for new content.

    Re: Expansion Pack :)

I think you misunderstood me mirf. I'm not imposing anything on anyone but it is a fact that this 'game' is still bug ridden as hell, is more like a beta and it's now becomming obvious that NL have abandoned any fixes for this in favour of making more money from another expansion. I never said I wasn't having fun either - I enjoy the game but I don't enjoy knowing the fact the NL have been working on an expansion when they should be fixing the glaringly bad glitches in the game. I certainly would enjoy playing the game itself rather than playing the glitches in the game or having to battle against those who do. If you wish to impose your acceptance in this onto others be my guest but I'm not sure I want to give nova more of my money when they haven't even finished the first game yet. Basically I'm not willing to be a mug.

    Mmm.. Ceramic body armour?

Hmmm... I'll continue to refrain from doing so... but thanks for the offer. Is my statement that I am relatively satisfied, and not feeling disenfranchised by NL somehow an imposition on you or others?

Look... bickering aside, I actually agree with all of your points. I *wish* game companies would act more responsibly, but the fact is, they don't, and they don't have to as long as their market supports the product. If people were fed up with any game, they'd stop playing it (read, buying it), and that would force some sort of change. But the truth is, the sales and number of active players is all the indicator that companies like NL need to reinfoce their business practices. Obviously there are enough satisfied players out there that NL doesn't feel the need to be as aggressive in their game fixes as you would like to see. The fact that they're continually releasing patches is encouraging to me. And despite the known bugs, none of them are game-killing experiences for myself. The overwhelming majority of my time has been enjoyable, in spite of the flaws. So enjoyable, in fact, that I look forward to plunking my money down for the upcoming expansion because it sounds appealing.

Not imposing my acceptance on anybody. Just imposing my posting ability

And it's this shoddy service that does no help in the battle against piracy. Producing continually shoddy software just gets people frustrated and then perhaps they'll think 'stuff paying $50.00 for a game, I'll get a hack'. Software companies are relying too much on releasing games half finished and patching them later, on the fly. In NL's case, these patches have fixed one thing, and broken another, or haven't really fixed anything at all except for a few frames increase.
As long as we keep buying beta software, they'll keep on churning it out.

Sadly, at least in my case (but I suspect that this is largely widespread)... I expect no better from the game industry. I *should* expect more, but I'm cynical enough to believe that doing so will only lead to more frustration and disappointment (again!... I ranted and raged about Raven Shield and stuck with it long after it was even fun anymore... the problems far outweighed the fun I was having, but a lot of this was magnified by the community I played in... but I digress). Personally, I will play an imperfect game if it provides more good than bad to myself, and the community I play in. So far, JO succeeds for me in this regard.

Perhaps I should feel ripped off. But I just don't happen to believe that I have been. At least not so far. I may feel differently in the future.

In the meantime, I await the new content with great excitement, and even a bit of hope that it will include many of the fixes we know are needed.

    But not too much hope

    Re: Expansion Pack :)

I have a different view of ravenshield because I bought the game long after the worst of the bugs were fixed. I think it is now a really great game but it's taken a crap load of patches to bring it up to scratch.

If there was no internet - buggy games wouldn't be released.
