So, here's the deal.
A few GWJers and I stumbled on a server that was running a custom map - which we really liked - a LOT. Is there a way to dig into the JO files with a hex editor or something to see which maps/servers I've played? (Probably about a month ago.) Short of that, maybe some of you have played the map, so I'll describe what I can recall and maybe it will ring a bell. You start out at a fairly large vehicle yard with an astounding number of BTRs/Strykers - like 10 or so. A lot of them. There are also rocket and chaingun Little Birds on the map. If you elect not to leave the spawnpoint via the main road, you'll likely find yourself in a tough-to-navigate maze/web of streams and islands, though with very little vegetation. The map is basically a straight-line string of capture points, though there are lots and lots of widespread trees. Big trees. No, bigger. Think of how little children draw trees. Yeah, that kind of tree. Tons of them. A few rolling hills, but mostly a flat map with lots of biiiiiiiig, clumpily spaced trees. A garage or two about 100-200 meters from a bunker or two, a bombed-out multi-story building about 50 meters from at least one (of the same) bunker. Oh, and one thing I've never seen before or since - you know those big personnel trucks without covers? I think they're called deuce-and-halfs in the Army. Put a cover on one and a set of Armory crates in the back - but it's driveable. A mobile Armory - brilliant, except that the bunkers I recall entering did NOT have armories. Nice. So, help me out. I'd love to be able to find this map and offer it up for the TG/GWJ server rotation, but I have searched and searched various servers and can't find it. Needle, haystack, haystack, needle. |

Re: Looking for a specific custom map - Help.
I haven't played any custom maps since the beta. I have no idea what this map is and it doesn't look like JO logs that kind of information. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a map that fits that description. Maybe I'll see it on a JO resource site somewhere.

Try the FSF server. That map sounds like something you'd see there. It's on Novaworld west coast. FSF uses those mobile 2 1/2 tons with the ammo depots in the rear alot.
The web site is http://f-s-f.org/news.php Hope this helps, Man.

We'll never find it Ducki. Great description though. Have you checked out http://jointoperations.filefront.com/ ? Lots of maps there. I've looked through some of them with no luck yet. Looks like there are some other maps that may be worth checking out.

Another excellent resource is www.dfbarracks.com . A.Bullet has a huge selection of custom maps over there. I'll take a look in a bit to see if I spot anything that matches your description.

Re: Looking for a specific custom map - Help.
Apophis' new map has some of those mobile armories. Very cool map, IMO. Still have to see it with large teams, though...

Re: Looking for a specific custom map - Help.
I appreciate any help.
The main items are at least 8 or 10 APCs in the default spawns, lots of BIIIIG trees, and a fairly straight line of PSPs. And, of course the armories in the 2-1/2s. BTW, there DOES seem to be a history file in the JO folder, but only for the most recent running of the exe, it seems. Bleh. I wish I'd known back then. Argh. Thanks all, at least now I have some specific places to look/ask. |
