New Info On Final Retail Version

Hi everyone,

I saw this link over at www.typhoon-rising.com. Apparently Gamespy recently visited the Novalogic game studio and they have some inside scoops about the final retail version.

For those that are too lazy to read, the highlights are (Modified from typhoon-rising.com website):

- 30 maps, most of them absolutely huuuuge!
- Advance And Secure mode will be playable on 20 of those maps
- There will be 12 CO-OP maps
- There will be 9 training missions, teaching you how to use some of the new weapons, including a sniper map where you pick of baddies at super long distances.
- New motion-blur effect when player is injured or killed (that's cool!)
- Individual servers will support 64 players with Novalogic setting up a few 150 player servers as well.

Okay, that's enough. Read the full article here for the complete details:

I hope this is implemented better than Ubi's method in RvS. It's the cause of all its anti-aliasing problems.

A lot of it is small cosmetic stuff, like extra shooting animations or the way your character raises his binoculars to his eyes in the field.
I'm sure that's a nice touch Jex will like. He's always asking in games if the binos show up for the other players.

There will be 12 co-op maps in all, and the team at Novalogic has opted to keep things pretty simple -- there won't be any storylines or scripted sequences or special objectives, just a series of waypoints and a ton of enemies to kill. It's clear that Novalogic is putting all their efforts into the multiplayer aspects of the game; rather than spend a lot of time working on enemy AI and crafting scripted events, these co-op missions will act as a way for you and your buddies to shoot it out together.
It looks like co-op will just be like GR firefights but on huge maps. I'm not excited about co-op anyway. This game has huge potential from the AAS gametype.

I agree

I think this might be the TvT game play that people are looking for... I'm looking for this to take over the America's Army gameplay for me...

I was playing it more than BFVN but no one's on anymore...

I dunno. I quite like the idea of two, 4-man squads inserting quietly along a river by zodiac under cover of darkness to take out an enemy comms centre. As long as the AI don't suck we should be able to get some decent SP games too as the mission editor is user friendly and pretty flexible.

According to GameSpy, Novalogic is concentrating on the MP gameplay of JO. GameSpy assumes that there will be minimal implementation of AI and the packaged missions are just firefights. Co-op is there but it'll be up to scripters to make missions as the game doesn't ship with any real missions, even then it's up to how good the AI programming is.

Re: New Info On Final Retail Version

I'm just pointing out that co-op will probably suck.

Re: New Info On Final Retail Version

After spending some time with the NovaLogic team at E3, I must say this:

The game has come a LONG way since the first demo.
The Co-Op in this game WILL be rather impressive and expansive.

A full write up on it coming soon..

Thanks Squid!

The game is going to be top notch.. But I also must say that Soldner is also going to give it a good run for its money. They have done a LOT of work on Soldner and it's turned into quite an impressive game.
