Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

I put my graphics setting down to 'performance' - meaning most options are low to normal (but mostly low) - I didn't notice a huge drop in quality but at least I had smooth mouse movement.

The terrain on the map makes things more difficult for defenders. There's an awful lot of ground to cover around a base now as there are some many avenues for attack. I went out side of Bravo yesterday and sat in a tree outside the zone shooting people trying to take it. On this map we need at least 3 forces. 2 attacking intially to take B & C and then they need to defend whilst an assault is made on the last base.

I'm thinking that for defence - it might be a better idea to leave 1 or 2 people, actually in the base and everyone else defend by setting up on key points covering specific areas whilst being able to still see the base so they can direct their fire into it should the enemy get through a line.

On the old map we stayed pretty close in but I don't think that'll be so effective on this map as there seems to be an awful lot of places the enemy can snipe or attack from. I say cut them off before they can get into position rather than try and defend against an assault.

Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

I installed and played the new version for a few minutes after work yesterday, and the one thing that I did not like at all was the fact that ppl lying down on the high rock outcropping were practically invisible. It's almost like the devs have things reversed--if you lie down on a grass hilltop, you stand out, if you lie down on a bare, rocky slope you're concealed. Hope it doesn't stay like that (and my graphics are set quite high, so it's not a performance issue).

Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

Hmm never noticed that. You would have thought that areas without ground vegetation shouldn't make a difference.

Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

well, there is a bit of vegetation up there, along with some rocks that are well placed as keyholes. the vegetation is not bright green, but rather a dull gray/brown type thing. Maybe they incorporated the drawdistance/cover thing already?

That said, if you know where to look, there are routes up that hill where you can sneak behind them pretty easily. (unless they are playing together)

FM and I set up on that ridge and held off most of the attempts on that base for a while using mutually supporting fire lines. (and checking 6 a lot)

That said, I think the tweak they made to the time it takes to capture a base also feeds in to the ability to sit outside the zone and defend it. Even if they do manage to sneak in the bunker, it takes a long time for the base to be destroyed/captured. this allows the perimeter defenders to move in and clean up.

Great point.. getting to the bunker is harder now than ever...
Used to be getting inside was tough. now with so much rifle fire from very well positioned shooting plateau's it's getting to the bunker that's tuff. Once inside you've got a 50 / 50 chance if you kneel down stay off the roof and wait for a good body target to shoot at.

I got 3 this way last night.. need to wait for them to come to you.. close combat is very tough in this game.. the player models move very fast and are tough to track for a shot if you are on top of each other.

Mortar fire is pretty cool with this new demo.. I used it on a server with about 60 players the other day and just road around in a rubber raft and shot my 4 rounds at a base where there were lots of enemy tropps ect... and got quite a few. To the point that helo's started chasing after the rubber raft's in the water like i've never seen.
I did have one person on my team notice what I was doing and he drove the boat with stinger and we took down a couple choppers while I kept up the indirect fire.
I tried to do this a little last night on TG but with the small numbers I dont think it was as effective.

Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

Don't think so. As I went-a-sniper-hunting on those rocks, the ppl I found were sort of partly (25% or so) glitching into the rock when lying down--I almost tripped over them before finding them. I don't know, maybe it was because of the time of day on the map (dusk)....

I scanned the bejesus out of those rocks from below and only saw their tracers, and that's what clued me in. Give it a try when you get a chance--maybe I've just been working too hard lately .

Re: Official Trailer/ New Demo Soon!

Welp..been playing the demo some more...

It seems this new demo tries to bring snipers more into balance with the rest of the game.

Landscape is laid out so that you normally need to be within 300 meters or less of a base to have a shot on it. Also bases are very open, offering very little cover. To show your player at a base, you need to be extremely close. No more hanging on the outer edges...

The base distances are ALOT closer than before, so the battles to hold them are fierce. When taking over a base, you will often get wave after wave of enemies with no less than 30-60 seconds apart. The action is fast-paced and non-stop.

The only way to take over a base is with LARGE amounts of friendlies swarming the thing. I sat outside of an enemy base the other day and shot enemy forever with my sniper rifle, watching the base numbers and waiting for a chance to move in. It never happened. Enemies actually increased at the base! Everyone continued to spawn there and reinforcements arrived from every direction!

As frij mentioned before, they have instituted a new system for hiding players who lay prone in the vegetation. A sort of dullish grey coloring covers parts of you body randomly (maybe it's the actual alpha channel of the vegetation?) breaking up your body outline and making you difficult to spot for the casual observer.

All in all, I like this new map and think that the developers have made great strides in balancing run-n-gunners with sneaky snipers...

"I'm gonna have me some fun..."

This is some of the best news I've seen yet!
