Re: Video Card
It'll work but don't expect outstanding performance or even decent framerates. I have a feeling that your entire system is outdated. PC gaming can be confusing because of performance requirements. Whenever you ask about how well a game will perform, be sure to include your system's specifications. The right balance of video performance, processor power and memory bandwidth is key to a good gaming experience.

Re: Video Card
Alot of us are using middle to upper end units and still dont have the best frame rates unless we shut off some of the eye candy. Also check this post for hope:https://www.novaworld.com/NWCommunit...c_ID=574704335

Re: Video Card
Those other systems in the thread use AGP video cards. The card beniscool is asking about is a PCI card. I assume the system it's going in does not have AGP capability, which would help a lot in today's and yesterday's games. PCI video cards went out of style about 6 years ago when nVidia released their GeForce 256. Also, a system that can only use PCI video cards shows it's very old and possibly has a slow processor. A beefy video card will not make up for an old processor running with narrow memory bandwidth.

Re: Video Card
A good thing to do is check what your system is capable of using. All you have to do is open up the case and look at the motherboard. Check if you have an AGP slot. It'll be between the PCI slots and the processor. It's usually a different colour, typically brown. It'll open up your possibilities to much better graphics cards.
Also, what is your budget for a new video card?

Re: Video Card
Your best bet, if you decide to get a new card, is the one you posted. It should get you by running JO but the PCI nature of the card will limit you from running at higher resolutions. Be prepared for the worst (640x480, Low detail). Stay away from the other PCI card on that site (FX 5200) as it is utter crap. Those two are about your only choices for gaming video cards. The rest are used for desktop workstations (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.). PCI for video cards is being phased out of the gaming area so this card won't last long. It's already built on a graphics chip that is about 4 generations old. I usually estimate graphics cards to last about 6-8 generations or 2-3 years. After that, games may not run or will perform so poorly that it's unbearable.

Re: Video Card
Make sure you have the proper drivers for the Vid card. An older machine will sometimes work better with older drivers even though the video card is new. Also, make sure that you disable any onboard VGA processes....this will conflict with your new card.

Re: Video Card
There's a known issue with ATI cards and anti-aliasing. Be sure it's set to 0 in game and 'Application Preference' in the driver settings. Also, check Frame Effects as setting it to high may cause a problem. Even though you say everything is at low, maybe setting Frame Effects to something else will help.
Be sure to browse around and post on the NovaWorld forums. Those are the official forums for JO. We only play it and don't get as much traffic as the official forums. Also, try sending an e-mail to NovaLogic. They will be more qualified to help you out.

Re: Video Card
You may also need to get Joint Ops to re-detect your video card. I'm not sure if it does this automatically or not.
Check the game.cfg file in your Joint Ops directory and look near the top and verify that your "hw3d_name" matches the type of card you just put in.
