Man, we've been on the server all evening... All you need are the regular game updates. There's also a link somewhere here for the TeamSpeak Overlay that is kinda nice for any game...

Hey D...

It takes some practice to get proficient with the weapons/vehicles and you'll need a short tutorial on good ways to hide and spot enemies in the game. Also, the AAS gametype will probably need a little explanation...

I highly suggest that you read Sarc's tutorials on the game. They come with pics to demonstrate some of the points. Also, in your free time play through the training missions. They will start to develop your movement and weapons skills. Alot of us have been playing this game since the first day of the demo release, so the learning curve may be a bit steep, but we'd love to show ya the ropes when you have some time to jump into the server...

--------------
Sidenote- anyone using that TS overlay yet? That is my one HUUUGE problem with the game. Whenever I don't recognize a voice on TS, if I try to Alt-Tab out, I stand a 60% chance of not being able to maximize the game back...Then I gotta close it down and reload again...very frustrating...

256mb ram
64mb geForce3 ti 500
5400 rpm drive

What are my expectations for being able to enjoy this game?

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

You meet the minimum requirements but it'll probably be a little sluggish and look like crap. Try out the second demo release and see how it fares.

As stated on the retail box:
Video Card:
DirectX 9.0 AGP video card with 32MB & HW-T&L required. 128MB or greater recommended. Compatible 3D cards include: nVidia GeForce 2, 3, 4 and ATI Radeon 9600, 9800. For a full list of supported video cards please see Joint Ops FAQ on www.novalogic.com. We do not support the following video cards: ATI Rage, FireGL, NVIDIA Quadro, TNT/TNT2 and Vanta chipsets, Kyro, Kyro II, Intel 810 and 815, SiS, Xabre, Matrox chipsets. Video cards without pixel shaders or with less than 128MB ram will not support all graphics features.
Operating System:
Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
CPU Type & Speed:
Minimum – Pentium III 1.2 GHz equivalent
Recommended – Pentium 4 2.4 GHz equivalent
Motherboard:
AGP 2X required, AGP 4X recommended
Hard Drive Space:
1.5 GB available
System Memory:
256MB required, 512 recommended
Memory Speed:
Recommended: 266 MHz DDR (PC2100) or better
CD-ROM Speed:
16X or greater CD-ROM drive
DirectX:
DirectX 9.0b required
Sound Cards:
DirectX 9 compatible
Controllers:
Windows compatible mouse
Internet Play:
56k Internet connection required to play
Broadband (Cable or DSL) connection recommended for server hosting
Note: NVIDIA nForce or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio.

Re: ok, so, what do I need to do to get in on THIS one?

DdogG, three recommendations:

1) In AAS, spend a lot of time playing defense. Situational awareness is crucial and very difficult to get a hang of in this game. Playing defense will limit the scope of what you have to deal with and is a great way to get comfortable with weapons, roles, locations, etc.

2) Try out some coop. It is also a good way to get a hang of things, because the AI is absolutely mind-blowingly retarded. You'll build some confidence.

3) Don't expect GR and then some. It's an arcade-style game.

Hopefully I'll catch a few games with you soon!

I've got twice as much RAM as you, but otherwise we're running similar rigs. I play with everything on medium settings except for a few settings set lower. It looks OK (much better than the HL engine can do...) and plays well.
