    Vehicles and Coordination

    Some babbling for your enjoyment.

Ground Vehicles - (esp Strikers and BTR) - Move the infantry close to objective but dismount at a point concealed from view of tangos at objective. Let dismounts advance and then let them direct the vehicle to provide fire support. E.g. Dismounts move over ridge, take fire from 50 cal, take cover, mark 50 cal position on spin map, vehicle flanks 50 cal slightly, takes out 50 cal, infantry resume advance.

    Helicopters -
Team leader can use Little Bird (slick) as a C&C Bird. Find fire support position (usually high ground overlooking target) and mark it. Blackhawk inserts* fire support team (e.g. sniper, 2 mortars, one medic/security guy). Fire support team gets into position but stays quiet. Medic marks target with TD, Sniper puts out claymores to secure position.
Leader then marks 2nd LZ for assault force. This is similar to dismount point for ground vehicles (GV). Blackhawk drops assault team or better yet Chinook drops assault team mounted in AAVs.
On leader's command, empty transports** + Little Bird gunships engage objective. Fire support team opens fire, trying to time last mortar round to drop right as Assault enters target zone. Assault team goes in. Have one or more AAV dismount short of target and have balance of AAVs go straight in, ideally dismounting behind smaller outlying bunkers or other cover/concealment.
Once Assault is in the zone, Helos + Fire Support element move to interdict reinforcements coming from nearest enemy spawn. These elements can also move to the objective if Assault requires reinforcement.

*Helo Insertions. Don't give the LZ away. Don't overfly the target. Go beyond visual range of the target and pick a route to LZ that does not expose helo to target. Come in low, don't hover and then descend. Don't shoot or use flares unless you are taking fire. LZ should always be concealed from enemy view by terrain or foliage.
**Empty Transports as gunships. The Puma and Blackhawk can be used effectively in this role with one gunner. Orbit with gunner side facing target, 300 to 500 meters from target, altitude 250-300 Make a very slow turn (use the mouse) that keeps your bird steady and keeps the gunner's pipper on the target. Ideally he doesn't even have to adjust his aim. Hold down the flare button constantly and fly at max speed. A good gunner and a good pilot can do this almost indefinitely. Concentrate fire on bunker slits, roof of bunker, and anything that has tracers coming out of it.

Good ideas Funked. APOPHIS, can you cross link this to the Tactics forum? It should be there.

You're an admin so you have the ability to do that kind of stuff. Anyway, moved.

    Re: Vehicles and Coordination

I'd love to see a map where we can coordinate a lot of vehicle and troop movement. It's be great to have 2 rockets helo's attack a psp with machince gun LB's providing cover and then having armour roll in just after the rocket attack and we all pour out the APC's and kick butt.

Something like that - but I doubt we'll ever see a proper, coordinated attack in JO.

Jex, when and where do you play? I see these types of attacks happen all the time. They obviously don't happen every time, but when we actually have those resources all at the same time we do things like that...

    Re: Vehicles and Coordination

dont bother, every time theres is a map with lots of vehicles (I.E. Twin Islands), people like to go rambo and take an attack chopper to attack the base by themselves. I tried introducing plans such as 2 rocket choppers attack, then blackhawks land, but no one ever listen, they are all trying to looking out for themselves

    Re: Vehicles and Coordination

I've found that trying to coordinate on a large scale is difficult. Smaller squads are easier to assemble and take less time to prepare for an attack.

Bloodyomaha, if you're finding it difficult to get team mates to work together, try jumping on TS here. If you find somebody playing JO, you can try getting some teamwork done. The attitude here is different here when it comes to teamwork.

    Re: Vehicles and Coordination

Yes it is going to be hard to coordinate a large force unless you get very serious with the game, i.e. you Introduce rank and have a chain of command (like International Conflict I would imagine). On public servers large scale operations probably won't work because there are too many variables.

I think though that we could try out some smaller scale stuff - load up two apc's and move into a PSP. Have the troops dismount to protect the apc's and send in a clearing team perhaps. Smaller scale tactics such as this I think would be a lot easier to co-ordinate.
