Re: Breaking Contact Article

Nice link, it sure has a lot of articles there. About breaking contact, I read in We Were Soldiers Once...and Young, that the army was to use a mortar attack, smoke and a bunch of other things to cover a retreat, but most of the time, there won't be those things. The one I would always use is smoke. Smoke is very good for covering retreats and marking enemies, and should be used more, in my opinion.

Re: Breaking Contact Article

I'm guilty of rarely using smoke, but my most frequent use of it is when I'm unexpectedly alone in between waves of attack and near a bunker. I'll hunker down and wait until I think a)reinforcements are coming or b)I can cause confusion. Then, I lob every smoke grenade I've got, either to mask my approaching friends, or as a red herring, or to allow me to relocate.

But the volume of smoke in JO seems.... weak, unless you are in cramped quarters(Kutu and Basrah are good example) and I can layer 2 or 3 together.

When it works, it's a wonderful feeling, but when it doesn't, my gun might as well be a wet noodle.
