Re: Hints and Tips
Some more tips you guys might want to know:
- When attacking vehicles, small arms fire rarely gets the job done. Don't try taking out a helo with your SR25 or AK47. You're just drawing attention to yourself. That pilot might turn around and blast you to pieces. Instead, stay low and call for stinger support. You'll do more for your team if you stay alive and provide valuable intel. - This was mentioned in the first post but I want to emphasize it. If you're in the enemy base outnumbered 5 to 1, think twice before opening fire. Stay concealed and wait for backup. It's no good going in and killing 3 then dying. You gained three XP points but didn't capture the base. Instead, pull out of the zone so the enemy doesn't even know you're in the area. The same goes for snipers outside of the zone. Enforcement does this well. He hides out and provides intel for the team then goes for kills when an attack is mounted. - If you're defending a base, pack stingers or AT4 and get in those armored vehicles! They're valuable pieces of equipment that are difficult to destroy. You're well-protected from sniper fire, dangerous against helos, and formidable against ground vehicles. You're a moving cannon! Defending with the sniper class is not always necessary unless you're counter-sniping. Even then, you can probably handle the sniper from the armored vehicle. |

Re: Hints and Tips
here is a better one if you are in an enemy base outnumbered on your own... leave as quickly as ppossible and take upp a position on the outskirts... cll for back up and wait until it arrives...
it is easier to hide outside the base than in.... |

Re: Hints and Tips
Another that came up this week is while playing hit the "+" and or "-" key and this will zoom in and out of the map in the bottom right of your screen while playing...
This is a great tool if your defending a base, and can see the other base that your teammates are attacking.. if nothing else you can see how many are doing each and call for support or bring the pain when the attack starts. |

Re: Hints and Tips
following on from dude's post if you have some satchel charges - place them down before you get out. When they move in to take the camp - BOOM!
Snipers: Your first shot, and every third shot after that is a tracer round. If sniping long distance do yourself a favour and bury them into the ground. CQB: Strafe left or right, never stay still if you're in close quarters - or even far quarters for that matter. .50 cal MG's: These babies aren't only a **** load of fun to fire but they're pretty damn accurate at range too. Station yourself at the MG and then use your Bino's to aqcuire targets. Then drop them and put the X-hairs roughly where the target is and let her rip. You can get head shots at 600M with these things. And don't leave the 50's at funny angles as it makes it hard for you, or others, to station themselves on them. Leave them pointing directly out from their placement, not side on following the sandbag, etc. Appreciate where the weapons are fixed on vehicles and how far they can be moved. Some boats and helo's fixed weapons won't face forward so you, as the pilot, must manouvre the vehicle so your crew can maximise their kill potential. If you see a target up ahead, let your crew know what side they should engage from. |

Re: Hints and Tips
A FEW SNIPER TIPS:
-To be an effective sniper, you need to realize how the JO game engine renders the terrain. I'm sure we all know that the game doesn't draw the ground foilage (grass) at distance. Therefore, I usually pick a sniper hide that is at least 400m away from my targets and in a patch of trees. The trees are drawn at every distance, and often create dark shadow spots. No matter how well you conceal yourself on a hilltop, you will be spotted very soon there. Pick a tree area instead. -Do NOT shoot at everything you see. While sitting outside of an enemy base, there will be tons of tempting targets running around. But at 400M or more, it becomes difficult to hit moving targets and just ends up broadcasting your position as you fire and miss over and over. Pick your targets carefully. Go for stationary targets. -After you drop a person or two, go hide. Either pull back a bit, or conceal yourself. Once you drop a target or two, people will be looking for you. There is sooo much going on in JO, that a 45 secs of hiding will make most people forget about you. -Don't get tunnel vision. Sooner or later someone will become OBSESSED with killing you (maybe you've killed them twice or they are on TS themselves knowing they have a deadly sniper to their north). Every 45-60 secs, I switch out of "scope" mode and scan 360 degrees around me looking for "hunters". You would not believe how many people I have seen sneaking up on my six! Also, many players like to protect their bases by providing sniper cover from afar. Often I will see snipers setting up near me and sneak in for the kill. Remember, if someone KNOWS where you are (you caught them trying to sneak in on you) they will most likely respawn at a nearby base and come after you again. You must move! Always have a secondary "hide" close by. Using these tips, I can often stay alive for 20-30 minutes once I successfully insert onto an enemy island (inserting is the hard part). Also, because I kill so many targets without dying (and the sniper bonuses), I often end up placing in the top 5 of every game I play. If a rookie sniper like me can accomplish this, I shudder to think what some of the elite GR sniper players can come up with. Can you imagine having Badger working an area 400M outside of your base??

Re: Hints and Tips
Looks like something was changed recently on the JO server that does allow players to switch teams. To switch teams:
- Enter the console by pressing ~, the key under the Esc beside the 1. - Type 'server change team' - You will suicide and respawn on the other team (60 second wait before spawning). I've seen a few pubbies switch to our side when the odds are against us. This command does seem to bypass the password. It's still handy since not many know about it and it allows us to switch back and forth during games without having to reload. |
