Another important issue is team cohesivness. It is hard when people are killed and respawn and then try to rejoin the action. It sometimes makes more sense to wait on defence until you have at least a fire team or a decent vehicle crew ready then move out again together. Hard part is when you are the dead one and want to get back at the guy that done you in. Reign in that anger and use it with your team. You will be twice as effective.

I often will ask players, when they get a little too "attack frenzied", "Hey guys, I'll stay behind and watch the base, who is staying with me?" or "Where are you planning to go in that helo by yourself?"

To be honest, I haven't seen this happen very often. The players at TG are very responsible and will often assume the needed roles without being asked. Maybe you just had a bad experience Jex...

What's the best counter-sniper tactic? I know this is a very general question and would differ for each situation. I'm just very frustrated with the overwhelming number of enemy snipers and the game degenerating into a snipefest. I'd hope NL built in some sort of equalizing factor.

It depends if you are evading, hunting, or defending.

If you are just trying to evade then speed is your friend whether in a vehicle or running in a zig-zaggy fashion.

If you want to hunt down the lousy SOB that just killed you for the fourth consecutive headshot than you have act like a sniper. Flank him, watch the threat indicator and move outside his field of view. Most likely once move to one of his flanks he will forget about you and watch the action in front of him. Use your ears and threat indicator to move in close and shoot him in the back of the head with your pistol or better yet knife him for extra points!

If your defending, well, just keep your head down. When all else fails get a couple guys on .50 cals with you to cut down some trees.

By the way, it makes the job much easier if you can communicate to your teammates via teamspeak the location, distance and skill of said sniper scum. Team work is the best tactic for any situation.

Sometimes you can scare them off. I've had success with helos and vehicles just driving it right around them. They usually take off for a bit, or expose themselves by trying to shoot you. I think the biggest thing is to make sure he has some sort of distraction. A sniper that's focused on you is tough to deal with. I've found spec fire to be less then effective because they can usually take you out before you get many bullets in the area.

Definitely take a buddy with you if you're hunting down a sniper. He can only concentrate on one target at a time. If he's shooting, one of you can home in on the firing and take him down.

Thnx guys...will check it out tonite. You'll understand if I say it's tough to play solo with a so much happening around on a full map (read 50% or more snipers), and especially recruiting a buddy.

    PS I usually play medic.

Hehe, yeah thats laughable, a sniper can only take on one person. I can tell you the best way to hunt down a sniper is complete surprise. If you are the one to get hit, try to remember where the shot came from, chances are if the guy is having a good day, he'll stay in his now favorite hiding place. Snipers are extreme creatures of habit, they like going back to their best spots, cuz thats where they have had success. That tip even goes for the best snipers in the game, they will return to their spots, just watch and wait. If you get the direction of his shot, come from a position behind this sniper and go completely prone and wait for him to fire or move. Believe me the only way to move silently is to be crouched but thats not good for a sniper because he can be seen that way. Wait for him to move and you will hear him, get in a crouch and move closer to the position and start looking, chances are he is extremely close, to get a knife out or your assault rifle, your gonna need them. Once u sight the sniper, take him out quickly, don't get greedy and try to knife him, cuz if he knows your there, he's gonna turn and waste you. Oh and a sniper can take on more than one target easily. Especially if they are close to eachother, one grenade will fix them quickly, plus if the person isn't ready 2 well placed shots and you and your buddy are gone, and I've done that to teams, taking out 3-4 guys easily. Also if it gets too hot for a sniper and he thinks he is unseen, he is gonna turn and burn from the scene. If u wanna see if its a dumb sniper, bring in a chopper and have him fly circles around slowly and wait for the dude to fire at the chopper and then get the direction and bingo u got one sniper ready to be killed. Also if the sniper is shooting from one of the abandon boats floating out there, have someone designate it and drop a mortar spread on it, goodnight sniper and or hiding place.
