    Target designator

I had a thought about a wider use for the target designator. It's intended use is for painting a target for mortar attack. But this seems like a very narrow application, especially since it has negligable effects (in my observation).

I don't have the game in front of me (here at work) so I can't confirm this, but I assume that when a spotter paints a target, that location appears on every friendly's map. This could be used to identify a general or specific location for anybody. I'm thinking that this could be very effective for reporting snipers when verbal descriptions over comms can be cumbersome. A protocol for this use (so as not to confuse with an actual mortar attack request) would be for a player to say, "Sniper at this following location". They then paint the location as normal, and the automatic message to the team tells them to check their map for location. Any nearby units can angle toward the target and assist in taking it out.

This idea only works if a player can actually live long enough to paint a target. More often than not, I would imagine this to be used to give general location. Given the speed of this game, if a specific unit can actually be seen, it's likely that a player would try and engage them directly.

Dunno... just a thought. Probably needs some trying out and adjusting.

I've been messing with Mortars the last few day's pretty intensively.

    2 things.
It takes some pretty accurate firing to get someone with these things... and as fast as the models move (especially on this demo map) your damn lucky to get someone.

I've been taking them and shooting them from the rubber raft's at an objective once I get close enough to it to get a decent amount of whiggle room around the bunkers.
I shoot one on top of it, one left one right and in the case of ( I think it's "C".. I'll drop one at the little yellow marker for the .50 call and usually get someone )

I've not seen any "circles" of any other color besides the circle around the objectives when someone is lazing a target.. Apo lazed a few last night and I wasnt seeing anything.

I like the Idea you have on Lazing troops but not sure that this would help b/c the movement is so fast.. Think about it.. how long are you standing in one area for a long period of time where 1. someone know's your there or 2. your sniping
That's about the only 2 things I can think of .. anything else I'm coming to kill you myself.

Antoher reason that I've been shooting either out of the raft or hitting the beach and doing it .. is once the fore rounds are down range.. I got refill ....

    ---------------------
Something else I just thought of.. If let's say the 6 people on TG TeamSpeak say Let's get Charley.. It might make sense to shoot mortars in there and attach after the volley hit's the deck. Have 2 of us send 8 rounds when everyone in positon.

I saw this in action last night ( somewhat ) when someone was shooting mortars at Bravo and I told you Mirfee to say inside. They were landing right next to the bunker... you had to wait for it to stop before you could move...
If that was a planned attack you would have been lit up when you moved out of the bunker....

Just an Idea.. I love the indirect fire.. and would like to try this next time were online.. I'd also like to get with someone and work on placing these things in a little better group if someone would work the FO for me (forward observer for you freaking slimy civilians

I agree that dropping rounds on a target like this would prove rather useless. My suggestion was to use the TD to give a quicker location for an enemy for ground troops to converge on. This would just be a fast visual way to mark a general location, rather than trying to give detailed verbal intel of geography, cover, etc. That info might be helpful in addition, but as a quick reference, this might be handy.

I mentioned other TD uses a while ago in this post. It's the post at the bottom of page 1. Check it out for other interesting things.

Sorry bro .. didnt mean to get so freaking off topic on you.. I'm out of my mind as you can plainly see.

I hit on this quickly with my reply that the troops move so fast it might be useless unless your lazing a sniper or someone not moving much... but no.. I couldnt just leave a straight response like that.

    Re: Target designator

Well about the designator, really the person or people on the teams that should be using them are your snipers. They are your eyes and ears out there, and yes they are a long range threat to kill people, but they gotta wait for a clear shot. I myself being one know that if the enemy is hiding prone and under obstructions where u can't see him, the best way to alert your team of the enemy is to pull out that target designator, that u should always have as a sniper, and paint that target and either wait for your team to infil, or wait for mortars to blast the place into submission. Also one good thing is using the td and a mortar on any of the boats if a sniper is on them, you will destory his hiding place if nothing else and then lets see the sniper go far while treading water.
