Discussion: Joint Operations / Joint Operations - Tactics, Strategy and Missions Discussion - Rifle tactics - I hate having to admit it but the sniper rifle is the only weapon I
I hate having to admit it but the sniper rifle is the only weapon I suck least at. I cannot get to grips with the other weapons. What came easy in the demo's is proving impossible for me in the retail. Is anyone else having problems using the rifles? I don't want to be limited to using the sniper rifle, I want my M4.
At CQB I seem to be able to hold my own, by that I mean if I'm in a bunker with the enemy (yeah that close) but at ranges I see a guy standing still, stop, kneel, dot on him (100-200m range) and then I tap the fire button. He looks frantically around, spots me, runs left and shoots me. All the while I'm stationary, kneeling and shooting at him moving. Wtf is going here?
I've recently fallen in love with the Gunner. Finally I'm giving more than I'm getting
P.S. The gunner character, not some dude with a handlebar 'stash and hot pants.
I've also started using the Gunner alot (I nicknamed it "Slave" )
It's probably a little too accurate in regards to realism, but it whoops up even at 200m. It's a little faster to lay down 30 rounds on target than pop out 3 or 4 bursts hoping to hit your target with the m4.
I know a couple guys here are using the m16 on single shot pretty successfully though too.
I still stick by the M4 because of the full auto. I don't use full auto all the time but I like 5-round bursts more than 3-round. The accuracy doesn't seem to have changed for me since the demo. I engage targets decently at 200m. I guess I feel good about the M4 because I used the MP5 SD for a while. After the switchover, it feels like I'm much more effective.
If you're a rifleman and take the M203, consider the M16. It has a GL rangefinder instead of the M4's scope. You might find it more useful. Otherwise, I go with the M4 when I'm medic because of the scope.
On the rifles with the Aim-point scopes, you can press the "O" (not zero) key, it will adjust the brightness on your aimpoint dot. (sometimes it can get lost in the background of your target)
Sarc, how do you use the grenade sight on the M16? I know you adjust it by holding Ctrl and rolling your mouse wheel (like a sniper scope)... but I haven't got the hang of knowing how to adjust it for a given range. I wind up dropping rounds long and short, and *still* missing when I make adjustments, and therefore go through more rounds than just trial and error with the M4 combo. Learning how to drop rounds on the 1st or 2nd shot would be tremendously valuable, whether it's the M4 or the M16.
I'm not sure how far the effective range of the M203 is. I never use it more than 200m and even then it's not that accurate. The markings on the sight seem to indicate 100m increments. I'm not very good with it since I play medic a lot but I do prefer the M16 GL sight. I guess it's just practice and using what you like more.
I'm usually a medic as well, so it really is moot. But those times I decide to play Rifleman, I prefer to equip a M209... would be nice to have a slight edge in accuracy by using a proper sight. Guess I'll just have to practice it more. 100m seems like a decent reference point for range markings.

There is a SP training mission that gives some basic range finding info for the GL, and then you get to do a little practice...
I personally use the M16 in 3-round burst mode. I have terrific accuracy out to about 100m, and good accuracy beyond that. Full auto can be simulated by shooting alot

Yeah... I had a helluva tough time with it, many many times over. I completed the practice mission, but more so on rifle accuracy, not grenade accuracy. Guess that's the best place to keep plugging away.
IMO the M4 is junk, I hardly ever hit anything with it and it seems to lack knock down power. I prefer the M16 single shot for infantry at over 100m, for close quarters and vehicles I switch to burst. In the urban maps I like to use the MP5/10 Its accurate up to about 100m and the firing cone stays pretty tight even when running. The MGs only use for me has been on defense. You need to find a good hiding spot and spray the enemy when the don't expect it for a quick kill. I find it very effective on bridges, if you are facing the bridge head on you can quickly kill the driver and anyone else in the vehicle before they get a shot off. For base defense I stay hidden just outside the circle and lite them up as the run for the bunker.
I always play as medic, I was wondering when playing in the urban environment should I use the mp5 or mp5 silenced, please state what the difference if between the two, Thank you in advance for your replies
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
