I'd also like to add my favourites:
1) if 3 out of 4 are boomed grab the unboomed one. His friends are boomed and can't see any outlines. With good luck you can pull someone away and kill him if he is in bad shape.
2) You want to pull Survivors BACK. Spawn behind them.


Key thing is of course that Smoker can't pull anyone from tight pack. He needs help from common infected and little bit of luck in thinking where the survivors are going.

Transcendant

There's only one thing I think a smoker needs to have. Patience. Lots and lots and lots of patience. Most of their damage is done by assists from regular infected, so work in tandem with the boomer unless you have an opportunity to deny progress.

Like a real sniper, you have to wait days for a shot, and then not take it. Or shoot one guy in the kneecap, wait for his buddy to come over, shoot him, wait for the medic, shoot him...

The point is that the smoker is a team player. And with the hunters doing slashing runs solo more and more, it's important to occasionally remind your teammates to set up ambushes at certain places.
