As all of us Europeans know, Valve still likes to think that ~ is a key in our keyboards - only key they use for console.
So far we have found a way to add the console ingame by adding "-console" to launch options, however this trick will not keep the console open in Left 4 Dead, unlike it does in other source games so far. It closes itself after you click any link in the startup screen, unlike in other steam games.
Here's how to enable it ingame. Fist go to controls and check add the console key you want to use to some control. I, myself use § key under the Esc which according to Valve is \ key - remember this for you need this info.
Now exit the game and start it up again with -console command in the launch options.
Use this time to type the following into the console bind "*" toggleconsole. * is the key valves game will understand, in my case it was \.
Now the console works ingame when ever you press that key console opens up. It doesn't however work in menus for some reasons I don't know.
Have fun with your console and remember to curse Valve for not fixing their console keys for our keyboards for the source engine.
i thought console was just the button above tab? thats what mine is.
It's above Tab and under Esc, on the left hand side of 1. The problem is that Valve has binded the toggle console key to be ~ that is AltR+¨, and it doesn't work that way for them - so we don't have a key called ~that would open the console. There is no such button. Believe me, I've pressed them all.
