L4D TG SOPs?

We talked briefly about this topic over on the CS boards a few days back but I figured we should go over it with the full release tomorrow. First off, do we need a set of SOPs somewhat similar to the ones we use for CS for basic player conduct guidelines?

If so, what areas do we need to make all players, new and regular on the server (if and when we can get one) aware of when they play?

Should we look at things such as:

1. Staying together as a team
2. Designating a pointman to lead the team
3. Assinging other positions like someone to watch the rear, revive etc
4. No foul language over comms
5. If you've been killed then you can't tell alive teammates what is going on around them over comms
6. No comm spamming, keep it game related
7. Teammates must communicate with each other

Any other ideas or thoughts?

Thanks, Assault for posting this. I've never played CSS or TF so I am new to the expectations of many of you guys coming from those games.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?

I think its a good thing to get the conversation going and discuss ideas
I also think we should give it a few weeks to see how the game fleshes out (pun intended) and see the full gameplay dynamics eg the other gamemodes before deciding on rules
however there are certain basic conduct rules that are obviously rules immediatly

does the creation of this thread mean we have a server ?

I don't think we need anything other than your average "Cooperate, comunicate, and act maturely." And of course no exploitation of any bugs or unfair advantages. The way I see it, the game pretty much forces you to work as a team anyway, and bunnyhoping/unfair ledges just don't seem like a problem in this game. But you never know until the game is out.

Honestly for the co-op story part I don't think we really need much of anything in the way of rules, basic things teamwork communicate maturity. If people want to take teamwork and skill to a higher level then great but I don't think we can/should force people to do so.

Versus mode is a different story and we will have to see how that works before we rush in and rule it up.

Seconded. Maturity and communication in Co-Op are all that should be required. If you don't want someone giving out pointers when their dead just ask them to stop. I do like being able to laugh at the live players though when I am dead. And I like that they can hear me when I do

The standards for conduct are still in place FYI for any game we gather in.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?

Players should be allowed to panic.

This is a vastly different game than Battlefield or ArmA. Players should try to get into character and believe they're in the crappy situation trying to stay together to stay alive.

Each team is going to want to do something different just to try new things or to adapt to the director. I don't think it has to be overly complicated. It's a casual co-op game with 4 players per team. It should be decided how the game should be played before starting such as no flashlights or pistols only. The standard rules of no dead players talking and other standard TG rules would apply.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?

Teamwork, maturity and communication and have fun. In coop mode, not much to do unless you're cursing at each other. If you don't appreciate someone's behavior either ask them to stop or quit. PvP mode, there's not much there either. Just don't start acting with the intention to make anyone mad and you'll be fine.

I'd rather not over regulate this game it tends to make things too constrictive to having fun.

What is the TG server's address anyway?

Exactly. As long as everyone is having fun and enjoying the game, putting too much rules would cripple that. Rules put just for the sake of having them is no fun.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?

Sorry you have to have rules or everyday someone is going to bring up having a problem with something new unless its covered in the rules Really its just what happens.

People tend to find a way to get off track and disturb others. I don't want to leave a TG server because someone isn't acting incorrectly in a new and pestering way.

Is it me or is it only the admins who make slips like that?

But I agree. The rules don't have to be strict or crippling. But there needs to be rules, even if they are only small rules that most TGers take for granted anyway.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?

I think once we all play it a bit more, we'll see which OP's become S I can see things like along these lines becoming standards:

- always choose a leader for your group.
- follow leader's orders (including weapon/role assignments... i.e. shotgun & take point)
- heal teammates below x% health
- announce in voip if you intend to throw pipe-bomb/molatov
