Re: L4D TG SOPs?
I would go so far as to say a two minute timer. There is no spectating option nor no auto balance option. You really can't sit in spectator without filling up a slot. Two minutes is gracious and gives you enough time to go to the bathroom, burp your baby, and make a sandwich.
If you're gonna be leaving the game for an extended period of time then quit the game and come back later.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
I think an occasional "oh %=^% is fine as long as you limit it to moments of surprise and tension. Spouting language for language sake is the problem and of course be respectful of other's wishes. That being said, I'm glad I paid for the 9th's server so we can figure things out without over-legislating fun. No offense to anyone else, but I'd rather leave these things open to the group playing at any time. The reason we need rules on the massively multiplayer servers is because of raw numbers, On a 4 or 8 player basis, I think as respectful adults we can figure it out on a game instance basis.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
I think that makes total sense! Players self-hosting co-op doesn't seem like a big deal and it leaves it open for those players to decide things like language and overall team play style. Versus is something that should have a dedicated server and some rules to maintain a fun environment.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
Mic is a must. Sorry no mics you just cant help in versus. And if its advanced or expert when the servers up it will be to hard on everyone playing on your team. Really not saying anyone without a mic is crap. It just makes for crappy play
I've seen it a few times when the team gives the mic a hard time and the game is still fairly new.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
Precisely, I've forgiven slips of the mouth such as "oh !#@$" on even "big" games like CS:S and even BF2. They're rare instances, even with only 4-8 players in a zombie game. Saying it just for the sake of saying it is just pointless. It clouds up the com links anyways and hurts my poor virgin ears

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
Expletives are expletives, they're things you shout when you're surprised or frightened by something. I think it's one of those things that's just going to come out in L4D because sometimes you're going to be genuinely startled and lose your composure.
Of course, for those of you who never lose your composure, consider vamping it up with fun expletives of days past, like Shucks, Criminey, and Golly Gee!
Eitherway, my take on the language issue is that TGL4D, like all other aspects of TG, should aspire to something like PG13. Not because we're not all mature adults who can handle a little grown up language, but because we do try to hold ourselves a cut above the rest of the gaming world, and this is one distinctive, meaningful way to show that we're serious about maintaining a mature atmosphere. L4D being what it is, there will be times when you start screaming things that would make a sailor blush, but at the same time unless you're actually startled or frightened by something in game keep your filters on.
Basically what I'm saying is that we should keep the expletives to a dull roar for the same reasons that you don' swear in a business situation. Everyone in the office has heard these things before, but you don't use expletives casually because of the office environment. Or whatever. Eitherway, boring topic. How can we more efficiently ventilate zombies?
What do you guys think about adopting the buddy system as a standard operation?

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
Just a thought, but the Hunting Rifle seems to be fairly good against the tank. Generally, when the tank spawns, if it's not coming for me, I get to a good vantage point and start unloading on the face. Generally the hunting rifle equipped players seem to rank second for tank damage after the m16, with the autoshotties coming in last because the player with teh auto shotty gets pulped in short order.
So, I would suggest that when the tank spawns, assuming the situation allows it, the shotgun wielding players should try to distract the tank while the other players unload as much fire into it as they can. The shotgun player should focus entirely on evading the tank, running away without shooting it, while the other players focus on doing as much damage as they can from a distance.
The theory is that the higher damage, more accurate and long range weapons will inflict much more damage quickly than the shotguns can, and moreover since you're shooting from a distance you'll have plenty of time to run if the tank decides to come after you. The shotgun guy should have a better chance of surviving, since he or she knows their job is just to run as fast and as far as they can while keeping the tank in everyone else's gunsights.
Thoughts?

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
I realized with a tank pounding on a teammate, if you melee them in the back, it turns their attention towards you

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
Automatic Shotguns are very good, albeit still close range. A sniper rifle is fine, you don't have to stay scoped, you just have to stand still for a second. Also the spread isn't any worse moving than it is for a shotgun so close range is still quite viable. Just please, no more than one person with a hunting rifle.

OMG I dont believe this! Leave the game alone, it's a fun game, I for one will not be joining any game that has rigid rules attached.

IF you are going to have a point man, I suggest zoey be the character for it because of her bright red jacket she is generally easier to see compared to the other 3.

Re: L4D TG SOPs?
I usually play vs. mode...so my mentality is skewed more in that direction. There is nothing the hunting rifle can do that makes it any better than the m16. Frankly, this game is about managing a lot of enemies at the same time. The hunting rifle cannot deal with multiple targets as well as the other weapons while giving no practical advantage. Also, once you get double pistols...it's hard to argue bringing anything BUT the auto-shotty.
Shhhh I'm being made
