The issue with custom maps is it takes dedication to make a map that really makes you think you are there (has all the right environmental). And think about just how big/long each map you would want it to be for l4d.

I hope there are some defense/assault maps (as opposed to campaign style maps) that changes it up for both 4-coop and versus. The main thing people are still worried about is more maps after the 4 campaigns.

I would strongly suggest never playing Valve games on a console as your only platform unless you have no choice for a couple simple reasons....

    1) updates: M$'s certification process means you will wait for updates until valve has enough content to make it worth the certification costs. Tf2 has gotten in the area of 60 updates on the pc including 5 or 6 new official maps, 3 classes worth of unlocks and a ton of bug fixes in the last year, the 360 has gotten zero updates.

    2) player created content: There is none on the 360, and lots for the pc.

    3) server controls: We have 2 servers set up to only allow access to members of a specific steam group, and another server using the new key system so we always connect to our server when starting up a vs. game. (assuming one of the group members enters the key in console and then starts the lobby.)

You may be right, but FFOW I had to make the decision and chose PC and got screwed. The exact opposite happened. I can see how a valve game might lean itself more to the PC crowd, but many issues with PC gaming are avoided with the Xbox.

It depends on who makes the game..

For games from dev houses with spotty pasts for releasing games that *NEED* patches on the pc, go with the console version as it will already run.

For titles from dev houses who have histories of patching their products to tweak it for balance or smoothness or releasing bonus content go with the PC version. Bioware, Valve, Blizzard, IW/Treyarch are all good examples of multi-platform dev's who's products you want to purchase on the PC in my humble opinion.
