replayability
so i managed to get a couple hours of demo in - played with troublesome, warrior and a few others that cycled in. It was intense and really really fun. I'm considering buying it, but I'm worried about "beating it" and then not playing it much/at all.
What do you guys think? What's the shelf life on this bad boy?

Re: replayability
With friends? possibly unlimited.
There is a PvP game type in the full version where you play the infected as well...Without darkness, how could we measure the light?

Re: replayability
I have the 360 version and since it changes so much each restart and difficulty level I see high replayability. The MP should be fun as well. It's pretty extreme in the varying of zombie spawn and numbers as well as resources. Good times, go buy a 360 Whiskey though.

Re: replayability
Hard to say. I guess it depends on the player. But if you stop thinking of it as a campaign and simply as multiplayer game, I think it will last longer. Plus, the community should supply us with a steady stream of fresh maps, as well as the odd Valve-made mission every 4 months or so.

Re: replayability
I would but most of my game time comes when the ole lady's watching Ghost Hunters or Dancing With the Stars on the HD DVR...

The thing that worries me is that the in-game AI isn't varied all that much. I played with mat552 yesterday and he seemed to know where everything was coming from... although even with that knowledge we got our collective ass kicked (expert mode subway level in demo) so maybe it IS worth it.

Re: replayability
Versus mode is awesome. It's easily one of the most competitive online games I've ever played. I see endless fun there. There is a very polished depth of strategy and tactics in there. In just the first night I played (last night), in pick up games, eventually I found a few communicative guys to start co-coordinating hunter/smoker/boomer attacks. A very interesting game.

Re: replayability
I played for the first time on the full game last night. I joined a versus game with some other TGers. I just have to say (in my opinion):
play the game as regular (not versus) first. Learn the maps. Then play versus. Because
a) I don't know the maps except the little bit from the demo
b) I never saw much of the maps because the human controled zombies tended to slaughter us within a couple of minutes. OH THE HUMANITY!
So I'm going to be looking for non-versus games to play for a little bit."Sympathy means a lot, coming from Kulmar. I didn't think it was possible.
Good luck getting rid of your disease. If you're infected, though, stay away--I can't afford to be a zombie right now.

Re: replayability
The map layout does not change so a person who has played the map will know A way but not ALL ways to the next safe room. The AI Director is pretty good about mixing things up based on how fast you are moving through the map, level of health, level of hit accuracy, etc. Try playing the game no sound. Then you won't know when the next random hoard is showing up. That'll make you change those skid mark skivvies!

Re: replayability
Servers will have a great deal of customizing ability as well. With the sheer amount of source mods already out there you can bet there will be lots of add ons and level creation. If the players are given the tools properly.

Re: replayability
Are there some servers being setup for TG to host the custom maps and configs?

Re: replayability
So far I know only one in the makes. It's a big mall. The guy said he'll put beta release next christmas. He had lots of custom textures and models there, looked really good.
