Re: Versus
Ok I got my first full game of Versus in tonight. by the end I actually had fun but I must say after the first level when the opposite team just ran through I was like huh? I was just stunned I watched them do it again and I really dont know if I like it or not but if versus is just run and gun thats just what it is. I know you have to stick together but you just have to run together basicly. I'm sure I will get used to it. Will sharpen my skills and teach Madness and his crew a thing or two.
One thing is clear anyone who plays this game and doesn't have a mic doesnt belong. It just doesnt bring anything to the table for the team. Especially on Versus.

Re: Versus
Yeah, closest game I played of versus last night. Very good job both teams.
Except for the part where it locked up on me, and other people kept joining... and we lost a human round.

Re: Versus
For me versus is attack or defend.
survivors = offense. they must attack (reach a certain point) and must move quickly during zombie boss respawn time and that is the best opportunity to gain ground (i.e. points). keeping survivors alive is very important and getting all four into the safe house usually nets 1000-1500 points.
infected = defence. zombies must stop the survivors and hinder them as much as possible. the longer you can hold them up the more chances you have at stopping all of them. again teamwork is your greatest asset, specifficly attacking stragglers and attacking multiple targets at the same time, which provides a better chance of killing one of the survivors since they will be busy. its very important not to go rushing in one by one, as infected are very weak, even the tank needs support.

Re: Versus
Ive seen other teams play versus on advanced/expert as opposed to other difficulty levels. Any opinions on which difficulty level is best to play on, why it is better, and why do you specifically prefer it?

Re: Versus
I've enjoyed versus a good deal thus far. There's something very satisfying about wiping half the survivors in the early part of a level with good use of the various infected abilities. If anything, communication is more important for the infected than the survivors, as the infected can only be truly effective in combination.

Re: Versus
Yes - communication over headsets is a must. Its amazing the amount of people that dont do any teamwork and then wonder why they lose. The most common thing is for someone to run ahead of the team in an attempt to get further in a map than the last team.
Gotta love playing as the infected. Nothing like isolating a human and clawing them to pieces, while the boomer works his magic on bringing in a 50 person mob to divert the attention of the others. In one of the matches - some guy decided to run miles ahead of his team, regardless of their health etc. Myself (hunter) and one of my team mates (smoker) took advantage of this. The smoker used his tongue to grab hold of the guy and keep him restrained, then I, as a hunter, pounced on him and clawed him to death. He was too far head of his team mates for them to help him.
By the way - is it possible to find out which individual person starts a vote? I ask because the last match I was in, someone made 3 attempts to kick me and 2 attempts to kick another guy (even though I wasn't saying anything and I was sticking in group with my team mates). I asked who started the voting and what I had done wrong but I got no reply.

Re: Versus
Versus RockS!!! I really suck at the Hunter.. (for some reason the whole Leap/attack thing doesn't quite work for me..) but today on my second map or so in Versus mode I found myself playing a smoker and Squinty playing a boomer (fat bastage). I was lucky enough to catch a wandering "new to the game" TG Officer (name rhymes with "Ningular Zooality.."..no real names here to protect the innocent ;-) ) wandering behind a train all by himself.. Well..a little Smoker love and Squinty and I had our way with the lone ranger.. Good times... It really can be played strategically once everyone gets a hang of whats going on..

Re: Versus
Hey spar, I thought Versus mode was run and gun after seeing much of the same thing however when I and some of my friends tried doing the same we failed utterly and we were a good team. True gaining ground is essential with the non stop respawns but running and gunning is just too hectic.
Which ever team takes their time to plan and press forward wins. As Infected we'd try to take them out as early as possible and it simply didn't work. Likewise when we changed sides the infected didn't show up until much later and all attacked at once taking us out in seconds.
I'd say go slow until you know two boss infected or more are dead then press forward, as a group, if not everyone is ready don't press forward. Also identify the choke points, Death Harvest has a horrible check point on a cliff, we jumped off and out last team mate lagged only a second behind only to get pinned by a hunter, dying because we couldn't reach him. Also identify the next point of cover you're gonna move to, as a group (I honestly can't say this enough).
As for Infected, take your time, decide whose gonna attack first and where, and position yourselves accordingly. Hunter pounces, Smoker snares a player, Boomer moves in and barfs everyone to zombie hell
Maybe a setting for longer boss infected spawn would mean a slightly slower pace needed for TG playstyle

Re: Versus
Running and gunning actually does work (provided the lead person is doing a good job clearing and keeping it moving).
An example of this is where we were in the hospital map. One of us got barfed on right when we exited so the hordes came and everyone sat in the saferoom...except this one dude. He broke off running through these hordes and a few seconds later had already called the elevator. By the time the 3 man team made their way up to the elevator, he was there waiting with the entire rush already over. And the infected that tried to get him were dead. The team then got everyone to the safe room a minute later as he mowed a path down. It was pretty crazy, and it was on advanced.
I do think though, a slower team might make it work. The problem is the director. The director seems to spawn tanks (on any difficulty beyond normal) quickly. This makes it almost impossible for any team to get anywhere provided there is some coordination between the infected to corner the humans with the tank. It also seems to spawn it not according to which team is behind, it just does it for both teams.
I do want to say though, like Sirusblk pointed out, a good team is the only way to beat a finale regardless of the running and whatever. I still think finale should be calculated differently or have a bigger difficulty modifier than 2x since its rare for any team to beat it.

Indeed. And if they do have a mic but don't use it also. I was switched to another team and my last team was winning and I noticed why the other team was losing. 1 guy without mic and one guy who doesn't use it much, but he has one. He spoke like once during the two round match.
Kinda hard to see that smoker has got him when fending off hordes of zombies.

Re: Versus
Actually the game has a bit of intuitive communication for those without a mic. Getting attacked by infected? Tap the G key, "Hey guys! I could use some help over here!". Find a stash of weapons or pipe bombs? Tap the G key, "Hey guys, Pipebombs!"
Granted versus mode is a little more frantic (actually quite a lot) but besides telling each other where to take up defensive positions when having to defend an area or when to throw a pipe bomb, there's very little a mute person can't do in the game.
I know it's hard to hear the characters sayings so I turned on subtitles. There's usually audio clues as to where you have to go, "This way!", that I never hear in game because everyone is using their mics.
