    Coming Back...Hopefully :)

I've been fiddling with various options in L4D over the last few days to try and resolve the nasty lockup bug that's been hounding me since the demo. Over the course of testing the game with various configs it would lockup at the title screen anywhere from five, ten, to fifteen minutes. After doing a second registry edit for page memory settings it sat at the title screen for a full thirty minutes without locking up.

I'm hoping that's a good sign so tonight around 9 P.M. EST I'll be back on to give it the real test in-game. And if it locks up again after that I'll going to cry

Assault we still got your place and we can start before Sloppy gets in. We can start where you left off I'm sure they wouldnt have a problem with that.

Haha I wanted to start at where we left off the night before but AVS was like noway lets just play through to get to where we was. Cool so I know he doesnt mind.

When we last left off you were reviving me underneath the hole in the floor in No Mercy before it locked up that night. Haven't you guys beaten the game 10 times by now like everybody else? You guys sure you have a spot open? I don't want to steal anybody's place if you already have a dedicated fourth member.

Your our dedicated 4th. Everyone till now has been your temp (no offense). Unless the team feels differant I don't mind starting where you left. I let everyone know everytime we have the group who I'm waiting for up front. We said we would Beat this together and by golly we will MR! Gonna try to get 2 captains games going and then I'll be on L4d.

Another lockup, this time at the lobby. However, there is a confirmed bug that if you have too many people talking at once in voice chat in the lobby, you could get a crash or lockup. Let's hope that was the problem. I'll try to test it out again on Saturday.

I'll have to put L4D down for now until Valve issues the next patch that addresses the multi core issue for those users experiencing crashes/lockups. According to non-Valve sources on the Steam forums they are working on it and cooperating with Nvidia to solve some other problems. Last night it was two lockups, one at an hour and forty-five minutes into the game and then fifteen minutes later after re-joining. The previous night was good for two hours until a blue screen of death lockup citing the usual Nvidia files.

I'm still running some tests but just maybe, one of those two recent patches might have fixed the lockup problems. There's nothing in the changelog of either that addresses any of my problems but if it works from now on, I won't complain. Last night I was playing through single player on Advanced for an hour and thirteen minutes without any problems. Tonight it was two hours and six minutes without incident. Who knows, maybe it was dialing the difficulty down to Advanced that did it Tomorrow I'll try running some more tests on Expert and if all goes well there, I might just be back and ready to go.

Looks like it's fixed. Just did a good two hours and forty minutes and no problems except for having to turn off multi-core rendering to alleviate the stuttering problem which is a known bug. It was a great game going through Dead Air with Whiskey, Poll and Varuk. Thanks for the excellent teamwork guys!
