    Tactics - Doors

Thought I'd add a tactic we've been using effectively. If you have any thing to add or do different when it comes to using doors, add it here so we can all benefit

As soon as you hear the horde scream, one effective tactic is to use doors. The most ideal place to be is in a room with only one entrance (unless a tank turns up). Though it's a pretty natural tactic, to do this effectively takes some thought .

    Single doors

    The blocker
    - The blocker is in the doorway using the melee attack as his/her primary weapon. First don't just sit in the doorway as you can still take hits. You want to use the doorway as a funnel - only 1 or 2 zombies can fit in at a time this way so get in the doorway and pull back a little so you a foot inside. Now take a knee and get ready.
    - As the horde rush in, unload your first clip on them if you have time but as soon as they get close, switch to melee attack and keep your finger on the button. It is unlikely you'll take damage this way if you just melee.
    - Melee attacks kill zombies.

    The Defence Team
    - The remaining players form the defence team. It is imperative they don't get too close to the blocker because they can nudge him forward. Their job is to shoot zombies, prioritising the boss zombies.
    - One stands directly behind the blocker, to shoot over his head. The other two stand either side of this guy. The player on the right covers left 45 degrees and the left player covers 45 degrees right (this can be varied in positions as long as the arcs are covered). With this arc you now have a good range of cover extending to the sides of the exit where boss zombies can be lurking.
    - When firing with the shotgun, to avoid damaging the blocker, aim at the tops of the zombie heads. This way you'll take off zombie heads and not hit the blocker.

    When it all goes wrong
    - If the blocker gets taken out of position, immediately replace him (work this out before hand). If he's knocked back into the room then all is good, once he can see again he can the become one of the three defending. If he gets pulled outside, do not go out. Instead, shoot zombies either side of him taking care not to hit him and then give him instructions to guide him back into the room. It is important any player under instruction follow them because if they start moving about in a panic, they may get shot and/or take longer to reenter the room.
    - If a player is grabbed out the room and knocked down, more likely than not all the zombies will go to that player (chuck him a pipe bomb ). Stay in the room and work on shooting the area just left and right of where the player is (which should be full of zombies). Make sure you always have a blocker in the doorway. When the horde has been cleared, get out there and help them out.

    Double doors

    - More of the same but now two blockers crouch side by side. This is important that they keep the line and the line must be held at all times.
    - The other two players stand over the blockers and provide fire support.
    - If a blocker goes down, is dragged out or pushed back, replace him immediately. The last guy at the back stands in the middle providing fire support.

Using this tactic should mean very little damage to the team and with 3 or 2 guys firing, they should be able to deal with any smokers. Boomers tend to throw the player who is puked on back so just fill that gap. Hunters generally don't get passed the blocker but if they do, are dealt with quickly by the other players.

    - Always have a blocker

    - If you loose the blocker, as you move in to replace him, melee.

    - Melee attack doesn't hurt other players.

With this post kind of hidden amongst all the others, I think we really need to split the L4D section into General, Tactics, and Rules & SOP's. All in favor?

Another tip about doors for VS mode while playing as infected...

Destroy them before the survivors can close them!

    Re: Tactics - Doors

I find having 2 blockers works out better on single doors. This entirely eliminates smokers doing any damage to the team as the 2nd melee guy can hit the tongue immediately. Having 2 blockers also means one isn't right in the middle where there is more chance he/she can miss hitting a zombie and therefore taking damage. This also means the two blockers can cross their firing paths which gives better awareness of whats happening I find as they can watch only 90 degrees of the door rather than the full 180.

Damnit Blizzard, fix ZvT already >.<

Yeah I would agree - the extra blocker is much more valuable than an extra shooter and this method really does conserve health too.
