The TG L4D server....
First off, I'm sad that this is singular, we really should have multiple servers (they are cheap).
My main concern is that the one we have is not versus...and it should be. Honestly, I don't see this change being a real issue if I'm reading the community correctly so I'd like to focus on some other things. Mainly, I want to address what I feel are the three most important server settings for when we--inevitably--switch to vs. mode.
First: Team chat only, I hate getting onto a random server with friends and hearing reaper/quades/unloads/pubbies screechy whiny voice on the other end. This option is a no brainer here at TG (sic).
Second: Difficulty level. I know when you are on a versus server the difficulty reads "versus" but there is actually a server setting behind the scenes that controls the FF ratio, zombie hp, zombie dmg etc. Personally I think advanced and expert are the two best options. Most prefer advanced.
Third: Melee spam. I didn't know this was a setting, so if it isn't blame Reaper. Apparently there is an option that limits the number of times you can use melee in quick succession. Again, in my opinion this is a good thing and adds a little something extra to think about when encountering hordes and such. I think it spices things up a bit.
I want to hear what everyone thinks. Also, personal compliments are always welcome.
Good hunting.Shhhh I'm being made

Re: The TG L4D server....
Advanced versus mode, endurance mod enabled (After ~10 swings, you swing like half the number of times)

Re: The TG L4D server....
Endurance mod would be great...from my understanding there is another mod out that affects the spawn time of infected...which is the reason why you get spawn locked as infected (the AI director think the survivors need the help I guess). I'd opt to turn that off, it's frustrating as the infected to sit out of the game for minutes at a time.
Note, this is only going on what I've been told in-game so it's very much third party info...if anyone can confirm it that would be great, I tried to google it and came up with nothing.

Re: The TG L4D server....
I didn't think we had any servers up officially yet, except maybe one for testing. But good question, are we getting more servers? I sure hope we are.
And are there even tools out there so we can admin the server for what is suggested here?
And for those that haven't signed the server wish list, you should do so here: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/server-...ead-count.html

Re: The TG L4D server....
I would say a it will depend on how the VS server is set up to determine the details..
Will the vs. server be steam group only?
Will the vs. server be set up with a sv_search_key so you guys can make a lobby and connect to it?
Will the server just be set up normally and you kick people to make room?

Re: The TG L4D server....
Are you able to find these servers in the Console server browser? I don't really have any setup as favorites at this point.
Can we have some of the Servers Linked to the TG L4D Group? I am not sure how that is supposed to work but it is a Menu option...|TG|ARMA Pathfinder
..now where did I put my keys?

Re: The TG L4D server....
Play here !
TG-9th server (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted for p/w)

TG-E1st server (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted for p/w)

How to connect through the console (method 1)
> load L4D, go into options / keyboard-mouse / allow developers console = enable
> open console by pressing ~ (top left key of keyboard, left of 1 and above tab)
> type connect IP + port
> eg for TG-9th server type connect 208.167.245.184:27015 (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted)
> eg for TG-E1st server type connect 208.167.234.194:27015 (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted)
How to connect through the console (method 2)
> from your desktop, bottom right of the screen, right click on the steam icon and select 'games'
> right click on Left 4 Dead and select 'properties'
> click 'set launch options'
> put in "-console" (no quotes) and click 'ok'
> now when you launch L4D the console will open automatically
> type connect IP + port
> eg for TG-9th server type connect 208.167.245.184:27015 (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted)
> eg for TG-E1st server type connect 208.167.234.194:27015 (password = "private", no quotes, if prompted)
Useful things to know
> after you have played on a server once you can bookmark it in the server browser (open console / enter command 'openserverbrowser' / history tab / right click on server and add to favorites)
> once you are on the server, friends can join you through steam overlay / friends list / 'join game' of friendLast edited by Exploding_Silver; 11-29-2008 at 09:42 AM.

Re: The TG L4D server....
server browser
open console and enter command 'openserverbrowser'
linking server to steam group
can be done for non-passworded servers
enter command in server config file;
sv_steamgroup 123456
links to steam group
sv_steamgroup_exclusive 1
make it exclusive to your Group blocking non group members, However, be aware that its exclusive as long as its empty.
Once you have at least one Group member connect to the server then the server is open to public.
creating a lobby and connecting to your server
can be done for non-passworded servers
enter command in server config file sv_search_key TG12345
load game
open console and enter sv_search_key TG12345
sv_search_key is now on the server and on the client
create lobby
start game connects to your server through sv_search_key
this does not work for passworded servers and is reported to be flaky for non-passworded servers
