Health Bonus in Versus
The game automatically makes each survivor use their First Aid Kits on themselves before calculating the health bonus.
The health bonus is: (TotalSurvivorHealth/2)
But the system isn't sophisticated, medpacks are always used on their owner (applied right after the saferoom door is closed), so if a player has a medpack and more health than a teammate, it's wise to use the medpack on that teammate to improve the final score.
This means if everyone has a health pack and have made their way to a saferoom, there is no need to heal because healing with be automatically applied.
Taken from the steam forums. This is also tested!

Re: Health Bonus in Versus
I've been in at least two games where people insisted they weren't automatically applied and left the door open to heal. Smoker+open door=/=more points.
Though you get more points for healing the lowest health guy, please don't risk the survival multiplier for the extra points. Make a judgment call based on the situation; don't always try to maximize points and take dangerous risks.

Re: Health Bonus in Versus
Ill see if I can get some screenshots on here since the original ones are now broken links.
But think about it this way, when you start versus, your health bonus is at 200, with no medkits. And when you are all dead, its at 0. Notice that if nobody picks up a healthkit at the start, it will stay at 200 and remain that way until you start taking damage for any teammate.
Or, conversely, if you all have healthkits but lose 0 hp, you still gain 200 bonus points for not losing any hp.
And, you'll notice that if you have 3 teammates with healthkits and 1 teammate with no healthkits but 1 hp, you gain health bonus when healing him. But if he had a healthkit, your health bonus is still roughly 150+ because all 4 survivors have healthkits (or high health) and would end up green once the healthkit is "auto-applied" after the saferoom door is closed.
So it makes sense to heal people the most injured person without a healthkit at the very end of each round to increase the average health for the team thus increasing the health bonus (since healthkits have diminishing returns for coop purposes, it heals roughly 80% of the life that is missing).

Re: Health Bonus in Versus
It would be nice if Valve fixed this by just adding together everyone's health then adding 80 points for every remaining health kit.
This does however encourage everyone to use their health kits more often, even on each other, not just the end.
