Re: TG server preferances

Only one suggestion from my side: please change one server's settings so that the difficulty level would be expert. It's what most people want to play. And if they don't, they can just vote to change the difficulty; if you try to go for the expert achievements however, the server must start as expert server and must stay so.

After reading, Expert is the hardest difficulty? The server side settings read differently than the client side.

I think the server settings use different phrases than in the game. Hard = Advanced & Impossible = Expert.

It's confusing and I don't know why it wasn't unified before release.

Apparently, the latest patch from the game has set the difficulty to Normal regardless of what's in the server.cfg file. I would hope another patch rectifies this soon...

This is regarding versus mode only. I'm not sure if this thread is applicable to versus and co-op servers. I still see the co-op servers running so I assume this thread is about all servers.

For versus, although the difficulty is locked on Normal, there are some things we can tweak... damages, etc.. we'll see what we can do.

Is it suppose to reflect this in the server console? From what i've seen it stays at the set difficulty according to the srcds console.

Honestly, I wouldn't know. I was just going off the release notes. If you have other information/other server admins telling you they are able to change the difficulty and have it work, that's awesome.

Re: TG server preferances

I want to say, there is a way to change the settings without changing the difficulty. See Difficulty is supposed to catch all modify the damage settings for everything without one option. Since z_difficulty is a ??? in terms of doing anything at this point, there were other configs (I'd need to look them up) to modify damage, or at least there were. Those were set by the server side. So technically you could create the advanced difficulty mode without needing to change the difficulty level which is locked.

Also, it seems patched clients can play on unpatched servers which means unpatched servers running Advanced/Expert are still going on at the moment.

Example settings:

z_speed "65"
z_walk_speed "64"
z_health "65"
z_must_wander "1"
z_mob_music_size "35"
z_spawn_mobs_behind_chance "25"
z_mega_mob_spawn_min_interval "40"
z_mega_mob_spawn_max_interval "180"
z_mega_mob_size "99"
z_look_at_local_player "1"
Z_hit_from_behind_factor "2"
z_hit_incap_factor_normal "2"
z_hit_incap_factor_expert "2"
z_background_limit "12"
z_gun_damage "12"
z_gun_stun_duration "2"
z_gun_force "400"
z_common_limit "120"
z_brawl_chance "1"
z_mob_spawn_finale_size "40"
z_mob_spawn_max_size "20"
Z_zombie_lunge_push "1"
z_wandering_density "2"

Anyways, for now I think if we could figure out:

1. Reserved Slots
2. Custom Map Rotation (im guessing this is same as mapcycle.txt)
3. Advanced Difficulty Setting

Re: TG server preferances

We need to get a list of things we can tweak so we know what our options are.

I played versus on release night twice. I've been playing campaign since then. Tonight I just got done playing my third round and got thoroughly schooled. I didn't know which way was up XD Thanks to experiment626, aruncado, and arf for draggin my sorry ass around the map

I don't have much context, what with really only having just started playing versus, but I think the zombie respawn time might want to be lowered a bit? I also would like to see the recharge time on the smokers special attack lowered... that guy is so vulnerable and if you miss your first shot, you're often not going to live long enough to get a second shot out.

Play more before you think you need the changes When all the infected are working together correctly you are in trouble. Same with surviviors.

Re: TG server preferances

I luvvv the smoker I can't get enough of him, I think its because I love sniping in most games and this class fits the most. However I have to say alot of versus server increase the speed at which your tounge recharge. It seems when you miss with your tounge you recharge alot quicker and when you manage to score with your tounge you recharge alot slower, well it is this second value that needs to be upped so that more people will enjoy paying as the smoker as much as I do.

Re: TG server preferances

I believe the recharge time increases if put "sv_cheats 0" in the config. If you leave that line out, it should put the recharge back to a more acceptable level.
