    Dedicated Server Help

It seems that my system and connection can handle hosting with few problems, but there seems to be a 'hyper speed' bug now and then when launching local host.

I'd like to set up a dedicated server and see if I can get it to work. Can you guys help. All the tutorial stuff I find online is old and deals with the demo. Can't seem to find anything that works.

That guy has updated his instructions from the demo to the full version. It isn't much different from the demo. You specify a different game name and you're done.

You can also go to the Steam/Tools tab and install the L4D dedicated server.

The server IP is internal 192.168-- and I can't get other people in on it.

LOL noone can connect to 192.168.100.1 or anything like that.
Try going to www.whatismyip.com and find out your ip then you should be able to have friends connect to your game. Ex... iport 87.24.63.101:27015

I understand that..... thats what I thought I said.
How do I get the game to use the external IP?

When I launch the dedicated server it says that it's using the 192.168 ip.

    Re: Dedicated Server Help

You need to set up port forwarding from our network (the Internet) to your network via your router.

    Re: Dedicated Server Help

Thats all taken care of, DMZ forwarding all ports.

It seems that I have managed to get the server up -- there are some people on it right now... but I can't connect to it myself! wtf?!

If i open server browser it appears under the lan servers list. Fails to connect.

If i type the IP in via console: connect IP it fails as well. But somehow ive got people on it.

Halp, how do i get on it?!

    Re: Dedicated Server Help

It's not up atm. I've had friends connect with the IP when it was -- not without having to try a few times though. Some people have suggested that its not possible to connected to a dedicated server using the same machine it's being hosted on. Is this true?

    Re: Dedicated Server Help

Yes this could be the case. I have played other games like this were you couldn't host and play at this same time. It sucks but I have not tried to host a server local so if others can connect but you can't then that may be the case.

Try checking www.srcds.com and submit a support ticket with steam also to get some feed back from them guys. I'm sure there have been many others with your problem.
