Growing the L4D community
If we want to see the L4D community here continue to thrive and be healthy going forward (after the initial tire-kickers move on), it will be important to continue bringing in new blood.
There are a few main ways that new players will find L4D@TG and become part of the community: learning what we're about by playing with us on our servers; learning what we're about through the forums (via google or external link); and learning what we're about through external media, like silver's l4d vids. (57,000 views?!?!)
The first is something we've always been good at - quality threads discussing tactics. We'd like to encourage people to continue making and participating in these threads! Also, adding tags to the bottom of a thread, and using google-friendly thread names helps.
For the last thing - making videos. Although the 'how' may be difficult, the 'what' we should do is pretty straight forward.
It's the middle thing we'd love to get some player input on - growing the L4D community here on the servers. Currently all our servers are set to be steamgroup exclusive. This means no public players will come through the server, before or after a game starts.
thoughts?

Re: Growing the L4D community
Agreed. For any game to survive (note, to pay for the servers) it needs people playing it. Whether its TG or other people in the world, someone is better than none. While we might have private or locked servers for specific things or custom servers, we should still make a difference and show this when people play on the TG servers. Whether that is done through custom maps, mods, plugins, or just plan teamwork and communication, everything is a contributing factor.
Videos do a lot to bring interest to these forums. So does information. And the more people who come here will probably eventually figure out how to favorite our servers. If that happens, we can keep servers running full with people all the time, which means you'll always get a game in on the TG servers anytime, be it with friends or strangers who just want to play with a little more comms or whatever on tg servers.

I'll try to help out, but can anyone recommend an alternative to Fraps? It halves my FPS, even with absolute minimum quality and no sound.

Try WeGame, it worked much better for me for PoE.

With my new computer, I should be able to get some high quality stuff without losing frame rates. I will definatly get some video, but someone might need to help me edit it.
